awful here in east London too - very wild! Just driven home and I can't believe how many street drains are blocked - you have to drive so carefully or you would just be skidding everywhere. Hope no-one has had a head-to-toe soaking from passing cars today! Maz. XX

Winter Drawers Ever Near

Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 11 Jan 2007 14:04

Hi, I'm in Surrey. Lovely sunshine at the moment but very blustery. We're on the lunchtime ITV London news. A huge horse chestnut blew down onto the garden behind one of the high street shops and demolished a brick outbuilding used to store replacement windows etc and also flattened a couple of cars. One man was thinking of moving his car when his hat blew off and he suddenly heard a loud cracking noise and saw the tree coming at him. He said he has never moved so quick since he was 20 yrs old. Lucky escape. Wondered why there was a traffic hold up. Now I know. Aileen xxx

Rosalind in Madeira Report 11 Jan 2007 14:52

It is blowing a hooley here as well. Warm wind though. If it wasn't for the fact we have a Portuguese lesson at 3.30 we would be off in the car to photograph the waves, usually find somewhere where they are crashing around. Last year they destroyed one of the marinas for a second time, which we photographed. Good website we use for weather forecasts is www.windguru.cz, for us gives the wave heights, so anything over 4m is going to be pretty good. Chimney not howling, but whistles through the front door at times. Rosalind

Opposite end of the scale to Oz. Minus 32 here in Canada. Brilliant blue sky and beautiful sunshine though. We must have sent you our winds from a couple of days ago.

Margaret Report 11 Jan 2007 18:20

Got home this afternoon to find neighbours fence down - again!! - he's useless - never makes a very good job of re-installing it and also my precious arbour lying on its back. It's a pretty heavy substantial one so the winds must really powerful to topple it.

Well l'd say its definately got colder this evening and its still raining with a harsh wind. Them tree's are still standing. Our dear little old neighbour of 82yrs has said she wants to get someone in to replace the fence, its actually our responsability - but she says its for all the little things we do for her - how kind - BUT we won't leave it at that, we'll go halves. Bless her:o)) jude sarf wales:o) Linda - l used to live in Lancing and my daughter played footie for Hassocks ladies:o))))))))
