Now over 1.5 million, but will they listen: No. They want to re-educate (brainwash) the people who have signed it.

I posted a thread a couple days ago - there were so many people signing the petition online, that the No.10 computer exploded and died. Lin

Now over 1.1 million. And there is NO organisation behind this, it's the general public finally making their views known. It's called democracy, Tony ! Get used to it ! I expect to see the Downing Street petition website closed down PDQ.

There was, I believe a comment about them having to reduce comgestion, by 25% simple.... let them buy our older cars, and give us a proper public transport system that goes from door to door, where I want it to, WHEN I want it, at less than 10 p per mile, I might use it.... What with so many hospitals closing, and people having to ''DRIVE'' another half hour or 45 minutes to get there... building superstores out of town so we have to drive to get our shopping.. our ''in village'' or local shops closing.. closing 4 or 5 schools to build one super complex....... methinks some of em cant do joined up writing, let alone run a country.....Bob Telly Addict Of course the flow of signatures is increasing......people are getting to know about it!!!

The petition may or may not work but surely the Government must take heed of all the constructive alternative proposals put forward by all petitioners?

Knowing this government it won't make one iota of difference, I agree, but I have just signed anyhow. It's worth a try xx

I wonder how many signatures will it take before the government abandons this idea. They seem to want to go ahead with this scheme despite the opposition. I wonder if they have forgotten that they are here to represent us.

Here is another version of the same petition... Sent: Wednesday, February 07, 2007 10:09 AM Subject: Road Tax 'Sarah Kennedy was on about this proposed car tax scheme on the radio, apparently there is only one month left to register your objection to the 'Pay as you go' road tax. The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at the time of Sarah's comments only 250,000 people had signed it so far and 750,000 signatures are required to stop them introducing it. This is legit... from the 10 Downing Street's website. Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with a link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition. Democracy in action? The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill. If you care about our freedom and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax

From silicon.com Anti-road-charge petition hits 750,000 signatures But will the PM listen? By Gemma Simpson An online petition against the proposed 'pay-as-you-drive' road charge has accumulated 750,000 signatures, suggesting significant dislike of the scheme among UK citizens. The e-petition, hosted on the 10 Downing Street website, is due to close on 20 February 2007 and bloggers had been speculating that 750,000 signatures would be required to stop the government from introducing the road-charging scheme. However the Prime Minister's official spokesman said in a statement he was not aware of any threshold of signatures that would change government policy

It stinks We have two cars ( no we aren't greedy, just needy ) One is a my company car that I do roughly over 100 miles each day - will I have have to pay or my company, If I have to it won't be worth me doing the job The other is my Dad's mobility car that is used to run him to regular hospital / doctors appt's - that alone will cost an arm and a leg. I want to work and care for my father but it is going to be expensive to carry on doing so Just another tax to rob us!!!
