Presumably that means we can eliminate all the 'wrong' family members more easily and only buy the correct certificate. Less money for the government then! Liz

It would have been better to digitize and index the originals from the district registrars. This would have eliminated all the mistranscriptions and missing records. Would also solve the problem of uncooperative London offices and make the GRO largely redundant. Seems a bit silly to scan transcriptions and not the original. Bob

So glad to see this Steve! I have been arguing politely with people for 3 years now about this, since I first read about it. Lots of people said it did NOT say the certs would be downloadable, but I cannot see that the Govt would miss an opportunity to let you download them- for a fee, of course. I THINK I read that to search would be free, to view would be £1, and to then download would be £2.50, making a cert £3.50 instead of £7. But that was when I first read of the project, so no doubt the final cost will be different. Anyway - if it is less than £7, I shall be thrilled. Can't wait. OC

thanks for the info that will be great for me the scottish ones are realy good there certs are more detailed idownload mine from scotlandspeople its worth 6 pound to look and they stay on so you can go back joyce from hollandx
