Cool, I'll give it a try..... I love the smell of hyacinths and I forgot to plant them in the house as I concentrated on getting Daddy's plot planted, so it would be a great shame not to have some this year!!

Hello Gwen, Most species of Alpines grow well in loam based composts, mixed with an equal amount of grit. After planting, top dress with a course grit. Bulbs, after flowering, need a minimum of 8 weeks sunlight on their foliage as this is when the next years flowers are formed. After flowering, dead head, and either leave the plant to die down insitu or dig up and leave foliage in a dry position in sunlight. Good luck. Tina x

Looks as tho several of my tubs of outdoor hyacinths have rotted away, usually have loads but maybe they will grow again - will leave the tubs and see. Bought a lovely pale green ceramic trough with three white hyacinths in while I was away, and they are blooming in the lounge and looking lovely. Will put them in my tubs for next year, and keep trough to replant for indoors. Hope your bulbs come up Diana and anyone else late planting. Diane, how is your rose bush? Daddy's Girl, did you call it?

hi gwen Alpines won't grow in peat free soil , they like acidic soil with plenty of drainage , now is the best time to plant them lorraine
