Hi Baz, I could never tire at hearing about Greyhounds---I love them!! My Greyhound is getting old now--13 this year. We had him when he was 2years old. An ex Irish racer--I suspect a non chaser. He's a large Brindle--a gentle giant. In the 11th century laws were passed which forbade the ownership of Greyhounds by Commoners and the punishment for killing one was death as it was classed as murder. The way some of them are treated now beggers belief. C xxx

Not really Cath, but seemed appropriate. I've heard that that bloke has to go to court, and could be fined £5.000 and 5 years inside, hope they hang him, and the owners who OKeyed the slaughter. Baz xx

Hiya Posh, To be honest with you Posh, I could cry at times at the way some of these dogs are treated, but who actually cares. I know I and some others are, but the majority of people are totally wrapped up in their own lives, quite right, I agree with them, but, with a bit of advertising, and somebody championing their plight, then things might slowly change. Nice to meet you Posh. Baz xx

Hi Baz, We have a Greyhound rescue in Cardiff who do a lot of campaining. They also have collections and do charity walks ect to raise money for the upkeep of the kennels. We have a five pence jar in our house and when its full it goes to the fund.We also donate at Xmas. But more could and should be done to highlight the plight of these magnificent animals. Nice to meet you too Baz. Take care C xx

Hi Baz - Have been looking at the website and also a local, west country rescue. I've already decided our next dog will be a greyhound rescue as I love them and would be an ideal pet for us - no kids, no cats! I was appalled to read that, as well as the legitimate racing, there are also unregistered 'flapping' tracks - these dogs seem to be treated particularly badly. Scandalous.

Baz You carry on talking about Greyhounds doll, I was bought up with them. 40 odd years back my mum was a kennel maid at Walthamstow and one of her jobs was to take the dogs round the back for 'plugging' . Not one of those dogs got it done as my grandfather used to put them in the back of his van and bring them home! It used to be a ritual in in our house where we had to ask if we could use the bathroom, as it was used as a kennel, until they they could be rehomed. Unfortunately times are no different from then and now, these dogs are used as money makers by people, if they are winning they are loved (well so to speak), but if they are loosing they are a money loss so they get abandoned. They are the lovelyest dogs, floor potatoes (if not allowed on couch!) Kim
