Not me I look on the boards in absolute horror at my friends getting persecuted time after time and so often have to sit on my hands to stop myself typing !!

Whenever I come on the boards, there has been an argument, I don't think anyone can actually come on the general board's without having read about one or seen one in full blow melt down.

This board has been relatively cheerful lately except for sad or bad news that some people post, so they get info, advice or support and that is fine. I haven't had the chance to see exactly what is going on tonight, only know it doesn't look nice and I am sad that some people feel the need to be unpleasant. If you are a decent person who just wants to be friendly then please don't feel put off, stay and help us get the board back to a happy place to visit and have a laugh. Liz

this is me being honest: I don't come on this site very often as i don't have a computer and I can only come on when I'm visiting my parents. I use this site for family tree research and tips and have just discovered the boards recently. What I've seen tonight is leaving me with a horrible taste in my mouth and has made me feel slightly sickened. What makes this worse is the fact that the people posting here are adults, not 15 year old girls. The times I have posted have been mainly on the tips board and the 'finding for' and the people who I have talked to have been lovely and very helpful. However, reading the general board tonight has left me with the suspision that I won't be visiting the general board very often. There are an awful lot of extremes on this site. Threads of support when people are in genuine distress, threads of attack and general bitchiness when things are going 'a bit slow'. There is enough hate and distress in this world without needless attacks springing up here. As I said before, I'm new to this and I don't know of the politics and history on here. And to be honest, I'm glad I don't. Please everyone, don't ruin these boards for the newcomers as it isn't giving off a very good impression. And well done to everyone who have been trying hard all night to bring a nice atmosphere back. Hopefully my next visit will be a more pleasant one. Love and peace Carole xxx

I look in here now n then....BUT!.. I can never follow a story as people add a thread and then delete it.....some add to another thread...then delete.... Others delete after having thier say..... Then you get the ones that start a thread about another thread and others reply.....then half the others delete what they said! Then you get the ones like me! starting a thread asking what all the fuss is about!....GR delete it..... Then you get the numbskulls that dont know how to answer a thread thats already been started!..So they start...ANOTHER THREAD! Get my drift?.... A very confussed Gerri.

i am a decent person. This is why I'm not impressed with all the back biting and snarling that's taken place tonight. I genuinely hope that those who get their kicks out of starting rows and arguements out of nothing, and seem to enjoy getting on everybodies case, are the rarities here. There just seems to be an awful lot of paranoia here, and I get enough of that in the real world!!! :-( Carole xxx

ty for the replies lol with you gerri purple, sadly i think those days are long gone there is now a trend set so deep that new people and some old are eiher to frightemed to post or put off by what they read. this used to be a really great board where we had a laugh, and a cry but sadly it is now ruled by a certain few who think they have the right to decide what is posted and by whom. but like i said things change and we all move on i just look in on the general board as a source of entertainmenat cos i am nosey, and am gauranteed that not a week will go by without some spat or other. and tonight has been no exception i have learnt a lot from GR in my early days of research but feel now that it is no longer a serious site for genealogists hence i go elsewhere, not only for my genealogy but also for lighthearted chat/humour and fun

Bright Eyes, to be very honest, sometimes the more fiesty and controversial threads do make interesting reading but when they get totally out of hand I stop and go and watch the telly. I have to admit to always returning to see how the thread proceeded, good or bad...but surely that is human nature, and if I was the only person doing this, the threads wouldn't go on and on so long, and more and more be created (which I don't do) to carry the aggro on even further.... So shoot me for reading them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pmsl!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still think these boards can be fun and pleasant, have had some laughs in the last few weeks, on some evenings, just now and then someone decides to rake up the past or stir things so it all gets nasty. Often happens on a Friday evening, maybe people have had a bad week and want to take it out on someone, or are already missing the power they try to wield at work, so start on here for the weekend!

Gerry Report 17 Feb 2007 15:41

Yea, I read the rows that go on and I am sometimes amused and sometimes exasperated by wot goes on. I am never downhearted about wot i see cos i dont take it seriously. The choice is mine whether to read the threads or not. I am always amazed how the smallest things get blown up out of all proportion and, more so, how everyone and their dog seem to involve themselves. The times i read that 'fred' or 'freda' has joined in to defend 'jane' whose friends then join in to have a go at 'fred' or 'freda' and so it goes on, and on, and on. In fact, I think I have discovered the answer to perpetual motion......... start a row on here and watch it develop a force all of its own. Having said all that, lets put it into proportion. The majority of the time and by far the majority of the threads, are fun, informative, caring etc. But, typical of human nature we only tend to complain about the relatively infrequent bad stuff rather than have the same long discussions about all the good stuff on here. I am up for renewal in a week and I will be renewing because MOST of the time its fun on here, I have made good friends, I have had huge amounts of help with my trees, I have been able to help others and the GOOD FAR OUTWEIGHS THE BAD Gerry :-))

hello bright eyes, this past few weeks i have,nt felt too well.yesterday for the first time in a while i had perked up.my husband settled me down at the pc,and i looked in horror.it was disgusting what someone had put up about members on this board.there have been a few had to suffer this nastiness of late. then a few more adding there bit of nastiness too. no,i am not a newbie,im an oldie. and for years ive watched some people do what they call flamebaiting.not nice i can assure you. i hope i never reduce myself to that just because im an old member. its lovely to meet new faces on here. please do not give up. these people are in there minority, good will always win through. best advice i can give you is what my grandmother used to say. NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER ,ALWAYS READ THE PAGES INSIDE. you may find you will have friends for life. x

₪ TeresaW elite empress of deleted threads&# Report 17 Feb 2007 16:24

I'm on here most days, and I will be honest and say that I too read the rows that go on here. I, like everyone else is disgusted that there is one very sick person out there who evidently believes it is OK to post the rubbish they posted. They do it over and over again, under different names, just to delete their account when it is done and the boards are in uproar. It's so frustrating watching people first reacting to these sort of posts, then the finger pointing and accusations going on between one side and another, (and I've lost count of how many 'sides' there are on here lol), then the mini rows that branch from the original, usually little or nothing to do with the first, but clearly reflective of the way people are upset by them. I don't get all the arguments, but there are one or two threads by certain individuals which, as of earlier this week I refuse to look at, simply because, having put my views on previous threads, I have been told I am singling so-and-so out, beng deliberately argumentative, ganging up and so on, when the reality is, my view simply doesnt agree with theirs, and they don't realise I stand on my own, not in a gang. But thats another story, and one I'm thoroughly fed up with lol. As someone else said, in the main these boards are usually nice and friendly, with fun, informative, helpful, supportive or debate threads throughout. Sadly, these take a back seat on page 7 as soon as a controversial thread arises. More respect and sensisitivty is what is needed by a small minority on these boards, then it would all wash away.
