I grew up with 'Cast ne'er a clout till May be out' meaning the May blossom on Hawthorn bushes. and 'Rain before 7 fine before 11' |

Not a prediction, but if it was a very cloudy day with a bit of blue showing we would say there was enough blue in the sky to make a cat a pair of pyjamas. I wonder if there is a connection there with the expression 'Just the cats pyjamas.' |

Here in New Zealand if the Riroriro (Grey Warbler) sings, then it will rain the next day. Early blooming of the Pohutukawa means a long hot summer. |
