Have been given a much stronger antibiotic today (Erythromycin) for a nasty ear infection that just won’t respond to anything else, but one of the common side effects is nausea (great!). I’m sipping Coke which is helping, and I sit or lie very still when the nausea comes over me in waves. Anyone got any suggestions for anything other than Coke please? Bearing in mind of course that it’s nearly midnight, pouring with rain and blowing a gale, so I’d rather not have to send hubby out to fetch something I haven’t already got lol! Mandy :) |

flat lemonade is often good for nausea you could also try ginger or peppermint as they help with travel sickness. if all else fails ask the GP or chemist (tomorrow) if they can recommend an anti-emetic (anti-sickness) drug. remember to let them know what your on already. |

Hi Mandy, That was the second anti-biotic I had (double strength) and I found just keeping fluid levels up whether tea or water and the odd dry biscut helped. Are you taking them with food as directed as that can lessen the effects of nausea. I think feeling like that is worse than being sick. Jacky :-) |

Thanks Sandra, I'm just getting fed up because it's been almost a fortnight now. Don't know which feels worse, the illness or the side effects lol! Mandy xx |

Hi Lunar I fancied some Trebor soft mints but haven't got any in the house (typical) and didn't like to ask hubby to go out at this time of night. Will get some tomorrow though. Hi Jacky You're right, it's a horrid feeling like travel-sickness rather than the other sort. I've got some cream crackers so perhaps if I just keep drinking and have one or two of those, it might help. Thank you both, Mandy x |

Hiya Mandy, I don,t know if you can buy it over there but if you can find Coke syrup....usually at the chemists....it really helps. Pour 2 tablespoons over crushed ice and eat it like a tub of ice-cream. My doc recommended it when the kids were little. |

Flat coke is better, cos everytime you 'burp' you may be bringing up a little acid, so continuing to feel sick. Try nibbling on a slice of crispy dry toast, it may help. Hope you soon feel better. |

Hi Carol I prefer keeping the Coke fizzy because I always feel better after a burp (lol - that's very unladylike to admit on a thread!). Would watering it down help more? Hi Kay I have hot chocolate made with milk for breakfast so I'll avoid that tomorrow, thanks for that tip. The infection is actually in the ear canal, hopefully hasn't reached the middle ear, so I think it's more likely the tablets. I've just googled and it does say that with that sort of side effect, it often settles down once you've taken a few doses, so fingers crossed! Mandy :) |

Hi Carol (NY!), I don't think we can get Coke syrup over here but it sounds yummy! Hi Carol, I do suffer with indigestion so maybe burping isn't helping after all! Will water the Coke down now, thanks. Hi Kay, as long as it's going to improve when the tablets kick in, I think I can cope with it. If it doesn't get better in a day or two, I'll ring the doctor because it's a 10-day course, urgh! Mandy :) |

Hi Mandy... sorry your feeling poorly :-( I realise hubby may need to go out for this but... I always find Kaolin and Morpine helps. I don't know about you as I know you have problems as I do... but I am on strong morphine based painkillers for my neck and back but I do take kaolin when I feel sick and I seem to be ok with it. Hope this helps... Love Gaynor :-) xxx |

Thanks Bryan and Gaynor, I managed to sleep and thankfully, the nausea is only in waves, not all the time now. I remember Kaolin and Morphine mixture from when I was little Gaynor!! Will see how I get on this morning with plenty of mints and Coke, then get something from the chemist this afternoon if need be. Mandy :) |

Hi - my son is on erythromycin for acne & I have just read the leaflet from the box. Nausea is a side effect & you should report it to the Dr as you may need a change of antibiotic. It should also be noted on your chart that erythromycin doesn't agree with you. The leaflet also says NOT to take indigestion remedies whilst taking this medication so be careful what you get from your pharmacist!! I was given a course of it almost 4 years ago too & it affected me the same way - I had to get it changed to something else. Hope this helps & you're feeling more like yourself soon. Ails |
