I must have been lucky and had no problem with mine. I put then on (in Asda|) did a big shop and then drove home. The only difference was that I could read the labels on the tins etc. lol Optician did say that some find them easy and others have problems Linda |

McAnne you have done me a great favour with this thread......two weeks ago I decided to opt for varifocals instead of the bi-focals I normally have..... I couldn't get on with them at all, lots of distortion when I moved my head......so I phoned the optition and told him.....he said to come back and he would check them and if necessary give me bi-focals...... After reading about varifocals, I decided I had not given them a chance, so I wore them for the last couple of days......and have now got the hang of them... Went to the optician this morning, and he was so pleased that he didn't have to do any alterations, that when I asked for my bi-focal lenses to be put into new frames, he only charged £50 for the frames (about 1/2 the price) and he has work to do, altering the shape of the lenses to fit into the new frames......result.... the reason for the new frames.....because I keep putting my glasses in my pocket (don't need them really unless for reading) and I keep sitting down and forgetting they are there.....frames are all over the shop... Sorry to run on and on and on in this way.....I am just so pleased, that thanks to this thread, I have now got it right..... |

Had varifocals for about 20 years and, apart from the first few days when yes kerbs come up to meet you when you look dow, I have always found them great. I have no trouble driving with them. But, I would not get in the car straight away with them on, you need to wear them in radually, try and keep them on too long at first and you will get a headache. But do persevere as theya re so convenient. Actually, your eyes adjust to where you should be looking and after a while you don't even think about it. And they are cosmetically better looking than bifocals. Ann Glos |

Morning all, have had bifocals for about 10 years really good except for the new pair that cost nearly £200 a few weeks ago that I had to wait extra time for as they cracked the lens putting it in and then when I had to return because they cut into my nose and the bifocal was so high up the lens felt like I was on a seesaw, which reminds me they have had them a week !!!! better phone them. Like Daisy have a problem with looking at the computer had to move my head to such an angle made my neck really painful so I had a cheap pair made by Spec savers no problems now. Have a good day all as I am also at that age off to have my weekly blue rinse. PAM XXXX |

Anne I reached that point in my life years ago.I have been wearing Varifocals for the last 17 yrs. 2 pairs of specs are a bind as I had to wear distance glasses outside then change them for other specs in the office. Best thing to do when you get Varifocals is use your old specs to go home in and then keep your specs off for about 10 minutes and try your varifocals in the house. Just wear them round your house as it will be quicker to get used to looking and objects. Suexxxxxxxx |

oh Anne - I am already at that stage! they take a little getting used to, but are fab once you are there. certainly better than having 2 pairs of glasses. after a while you will forget you are wearing them and will stop feeling so ooooold !!! Maz. XX |

Anne, I have had varifocals for some years now, and get on fine with them, I did have one pair from Optical Revolution and they were dreadful, went back and they retested my eyes and found my own optician who I have been going to since the age of 11 when I first found I needed specs, and was mum and dad's optician too so he knows the family problems, had made a mistake writing the prescription. All sorted out and fine now, I can atually read a book if I hold it closely better without any specs but for general use and driving etc etc I use my varifocals. I did have contact lenses for a while but everyone said it didn't look like me, they were so used to seeing me in specs, said it didn't look like me without any. Went back to specs cos I had a new baby and couldn't keep faffing about with the cleaning of them. Hope you soon get used to yours. Liz |
