Happy to go with whatever the majority decides. I actually prefer the classics and would probably not read the contemporary works that I have been doing lately with the choices of Greaders to encourage me. It's a bit like going to Weight Watchers. Not that I've ever been....but it's a group participation thing to do something you probably wouldn't stick at without others waiting to see if you have accomplished the goal this time. Usually I stick to Police Proceedurals and Crime/ Thrillers, but will do my best to participate in both, although probably wouldn't read all 4 books each month. Hope all that makes sense.... Would you still be organising both threads Ann? Alfie.x |

OK In May I will try doing it a different way. Two threads at the same time for suggestions. One for 'ordinary books' and one for classics. Three ordinary books to be chosen and as many read as wanted out of the three winners. On the classic thread, those who want to read/have time to read a classic (plus however many of the other three they want to read) to suggest classic titles, those who have no interest in classics and who wont be voting for a classic book wont need to suggest a title. does that sound OK? This will be an experiment. if it proves to be too divisive or difficult to work, or too many books, we can revert to the old way but with those who don't want to read the classics not suggesting/voting. This will be around 25th May. Ann Glos |

glad this was nudged as I missed it! I'm very happy with the new system you have proposed Ann. As you will know, I am a big fan of the classics, so will be taking an active part in that one. My only suggestion would be (I know this happens quite often anyway) to have a 5 or even 6 week cycle rather than 1 month. I very often want to read other things in between (at the moment I am up to about page 900 of a 1400 page novel lol) and this restricts the number of Greaders books I can fit in before review time. I know Daisy at least has a huge pile by her bed and I expect Dee does too and others :-) Apart from that I think everything is perfect. Would like to add my thanks to you for your hard work :-)) Maz. XX |

Hi Maz, thank you, I agree that a six week cycle might be a good idea. Will go for that after the next review/choice. I too struggle to read other books, sometimes to the detriment of the book club choice. so, on 25th May I will put up two suggestion threads. One for 2 ordinary books and one for classics. Then the review date for those will be 6 weeks after which is 6th July. The review date for the current books is 26th May (although of course late reviews are not a real problem.) I would also like to see more discussion initiated about some of the books. at the moment we tend to read, review and forget about them. Ann Glos |

Hi Ann, Have seen thread, fine with me. I am not a big classics fan but do keep trying them to broaden my reading! I think I will just suggest/choose on ordinary thread but will try and fit in a classic where I can. Thanks Dawn |

good idea dawn, I might do the same. I do find a lot of the classics hard going. Liked the Du Maurier ones though, it is the Hardys and Dickens I find hard. Ann Glos |

hello anne I have read this thread and I agree to whatever the majority says. I read a great deal so it isn't a problem whether I read classics here or in my own time. |

Thanks Ann - have read and hopefully understood! I will probably try to read a mixture of classics and others but may not do both every time. I like the idea of 6 weeks to read the books. Just to let you know I won't be around when you're choosing and voting at the end of May so will add my reviews late and find the voting result thread when I'm back on line. If I find any books I particularly want to nominate I'll pm you them in advance if that's ok - if not I'll just pass on suggestions this month. Kate |

Ann. Have read this and agree as well, I am not a lover of some of the classics but will read one if I have the time. ALSO I am going away 15th May till 29th May to Kefalonia, I won't be here for the choosing or the results so what would you like me to do regard the choosing of the 3 books? Shall I pm them to you Ann, and then you can pm me with the result of voting or what? Thanks Maisie |

Hi Ann Have read the above. I quite like the idea of a 6 week cycle. As you say, it gives you a chance to read other books. Jeanette x |

Ann you are a star for doing this and I'm happy to go along with whatever you suggest. As Maz said, I do have a huge pile of books to read, and bought 5 more yesterday, one is actually Here Be Dragons, but I got sidetracked by a couple of others and am totally engrossed! I have no self discipline! lol Have also just been reading the Waterstones book review mag and there are SO MANY in there. What's a girl to do? I'm supposed to be preparing my house to go on the market next week, but hubby learned years ago that books come before everything! I even read the back of the shampoo bottle in the shower! Daisy |
