Just remembered some more! When someone left the door open - 'Were you born in a field with the gate open?' When someone said something that surprised her- 'Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs!' 'Will 'e 'eck as like!' 'Daft as a brush' or 'daft as a balm cake'. And I remember when I was working with a Jamacan nurse, I said something about the changes being brought in by a new Sister, and I quoted that one about 'a new broom sweeps clean'. She turned to me with a wink and finished it off with 'But an old broom knows all the corners'.! I'll always remember that one - us oldies DO have a value! Bx |

Whenever we lost or lose something my mum always say's 'if I find it I'll throw it ya' esp if it's something important that we really need/needed and are getting stress about it. We use to cringe in case she did find it coz most of the time it was our school shoes or something heavy! |

My least favourite thing as a child was being dragged along to pay last respects to the deceased . Mother and her cronnies would stand around the coffin and say ' he's looking well isn't he ' ???? or ' he's not like himself ' ??? makes no sense does it !!!! Kathy |

Another saying back then was when we pulled a face ' If the wind changed you will stay like that ' Made no difference to me anyway I always looked as though I was born inside out Colin :):) |

Joy- I like 'my way, or the highway'! When the kids were little and being unco-operative, we'd say 'We can do this the easy way, or the hard way!' It usually worked! Bx |

what part of NO do you not understand, the N or the O. I sound like a right stroppy mother. When I heard a child screeching at her mother the other day in the supermarket 'I need a cake', I felt like getting down to her level and saying to her, Mummy, I would really like a cake, could I have one please. Children are so spoiled today, the parent just put up with her screeching over and over, instead of correcting her. Joy |
