I don`t think he could handle England without a gun . He metes out rough justice in his parochial situation. He in the the wilds of Arizona, living on local taxes and acting like a dictator. Did you get a reply to your email? Keith

if we did the right thing and made the punishent fit the crime,. we wouldnt need half the prisons we have now, just a couple council houses. we need someone here like sheriff joe out in arizona usa, no comfort there for the baddies, they had cable tv so he took it out, law said he had to put it back but they dont stipulate what channels so now they only have the disney channel and the weather channel so they can see how hot its going to be when he has them out on the chain gang, cleaning the sts, we are way way too soft and listen too much to the pc brigade.

Maybe the cost has something to do with providing brand new, state of the art, gymnasiums in prisons? Deport those who are in this country as guests - invited or otherwise, having first taken their DNA - won't stop them coming back, but at least they will be known when they get caught again. Make all prisoners work a 40 hour week, for wages. I don't care how boring or pointless the work is - lots of decent people have to do boring, pointless work. Make them pay a realistic amount for their living expenses - including tax, community tax, national insurance contributions, electric, etc - just like we all have to. OC

Bring back capital punishment, it keeps the numbers down, full sentence for other offenders would be served with no overcrowding, future generations would think twice about a life of crime. Chelsea

peter if you have sky news that figure was from there. kriss i agree its wrongxx my point is if everyone gave a pound like everyone, even those on income support ,just for a week ,would it be enough to build one prison.also let the prisoners labour as part of there punishment xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I suspect someone has got the decimal point in the wrong place. £38.50, or £14,000 per year is closer to the mark. Still a lot of money, though, given there are nearly 100,000 of them.

When the No Smoking ban comes in, prisoners are exempt, yet prison officers who smoke will not be allowed to smoke in the prison. Apparently prisons are classed as 'homes'.
