They tried to protect the ships and men at least one plane ditched due to damage a Hurricane with Ron Courtney in it

There was one landed on the beach due to damage, am sure he said a spitfire. It was brought up from the sand in 1986 and it took them 30 years to restore it :-)

Geoffrey Stevenson was the Spitfire pilot..shot down near Calais :-(

Over the nine days of Operation Dynamo, the RAF flew 2,739 fighter sorties, 651 bombing raids and 171 reconnaissance flights. Fighter Command claimed 262 enemy aircraft, losing 106 of their own.
