A happy day tinged with sadness. My great grandmother died 75 years ago. She never knew her soldier sons returned safely. Nor did she ever experience the joy of grandchildren.

I have my Union Jack out - shame we can’t have a street party. Will have to have my celebratory tipples in secret ;-)

Pulls down me tunic, c'mon on Belle and Von. We can be The Andrews Sisters.

'Don't sit under the apple tree, with anyone else but me.
Anyone else but me,
Anyone else but me.
Anyone else but me.

No, no, no, no.

I tend to agree with Von and names.

For us, as a family, WW2 did not end in May 1945.

Mum's youngest brother died in Germany in July 1945. <3
In his effects were left two dresses for me, his only niece at that time. <3

My Dad went from fighting in the Med and North Atlantic to become part of the First Fleet to enter the South China Sea after the fall of Singapore.

I can't ever recall celebrating either 11 November nor VE nor VJ Days. It was something our family never did at all.

I do appreciate the courage and bravery shown by those who made the lives we live today possible, but for many of them life would never be the same.

So for all who served in any capacity whatsoever - men and women (my Mum was in the WAAF) - a huge

THANK YOU.

Happy VE Day everyone <3 <3 <3

I thought the 2 mins silence was very moving with all the footage from the war shown alongside <3 <3

It is a glorious day here, so will have a bit of lunch outside today :-D :-D :-D

From this morning we are in lockdown another three weeks here in Wales, but things are being put in place to open up skip slyest and garden centres, no let up on the travelling except for food. However you can now exercise more than once a day outdoors :-)

Take care everyone <3 <3

My Mum was in the WAAF too...she's still with us (96) and I was hoping to take her to an event today.

I have mixed feelings too, not least because my Dad (who was somewhere in the Low Countries on VE Day) died 40 years ago tomorrow.

Afternoon all <3 <3

Such a moving day filled with mixed emotions.

I am eternally grateful to those who fought and died
so that we could live in peace. God bless them.

I agree with Joy @13:16
Although not even thought of at the time the cloud of ww2 never really lifted for my family.

I wonder how many who are 'celebrating' are aware that WW2 was not over on 8th May '45 and how many voted to leave Europe in 2016 and have slated the EU since? How many know what today really means and is it just a distraction from the virus?

I never watch The One Show but tonight I shall do so as my dance teacher told us that she will be dancing there with others and, I think, with her partner.

i'm not at all sure what they're doing but it could be something similar to what we do in class (but with a partner). <3
