We are leaving papers and post in the porch till late afternoon and are wiping other shopping and parcels with Dettol spray. I had thought freezer goods would kill the virus, but also read that while it would be dormant, as soon as food was removed and warmed up the virus would become active again. So the next freezer shopping will get wiped as well.

I'm not .......

......... OH is my carer in that I can't do any housework. I can cook, as long as I take it slowly and rest .

I am washing my hands frequently, and trying to keep my hands away from my face.

But I bring in the newspaper, don't do anything to it.

Same for the mail, for parcels and groceries

But I wash my hands immediately I've brought them in and dealt with them.

Just swiping a wipe over surfaces doesn't kill all of them, there's lots of evidence about that. Frequent hand washing does as much or more.

BTW ........... all these things you are doing have not been generally suggested here, though I know people are doing it. We are in pretty good shape so far

As Sylvia says hand washing and not touching your face are the main things...that said any mail or parcel we get we make sure to wash our hands afterwards. Groceries go into the garage where they're sorted....things like milk are wiped down...fruit goes into the cold cellar for at least three days...all cans/boxes that aren't needed go into the basement for at least three days....frozen stuff is wiped down before going into freezer....more than is needed probably but better safe than sorry....my son is still working so when he comes home it's a strict routine wiping handles down etc his lunchbox etc kept separate until it's washed....as you can't see it then you have to assume it's there!!

If it gives peace of mind, carry on with whatever precautions you are taking.

Island is correct ...............

if you are more comfortable with what you are doing than if you did not do it, then carry on.

It's more important that you yourself are dong what you think best than be concerned with what anyone else is doing.

Dermot .............. the "stoop" is the front porch, often a very large area separated by steps from the garden.
