Susan10146857 Report 21 Nov 2013 11:00

I deleted the other night because a certain male poster decided to add smut to my thread. In the middle of the night I find that decidedly creepy. It is also a well known fact on here that I do not like that type of post on any thread I post, so the poster either did it deliberately for effect so that his fellow men/women could have a laugh or he is just like that anyway. Either way it was not the gentlemanly thing to do in my eyes. It was the middle of the night....sheesh! I don't expect to find men crawling the web for chat of the smut kind on GR.

I have become increasingly wary of smut talking men. And also those who post smutty jokes....especially those with children as the basis........although it wasn't the case this particular time.......who are they?. What is their goal?....is it the beginning of grooming?...does anyone know who they are siding with when they decide that the poster who talks to women on the net with smutty content is an OK guy......creepy is what I say.......what is their ultimate goal......and just as important......have they done it before and what was the outcome?

if this thread had been deleted by now.....I wouldn't have added to it. if it hadn't appeared in the first place maybe there wouldn't be any other posts on the subject either......I do wonder what the poster's aim was when at first this thread appeared......not what has been written since no doubt.

all I can say is that lessons can be learned.....watch out who you befriend on the internet.....If they talk smut and you don't know them.....ask yourself why they would want to continue in that vein......also ask yourself....am I encouraging them with smutty answers which could be taken as a green light to continue on to other things.....women beware......you won't get an apology......maybe they think it is their right to speak to women any way they please......maybe the so called majority of women on this particular site encourage them with their acceptance.....are you one of these?.....well, whether you are or not....beware.....some are not all they seem to be and you won't find out until it is too late........remember......smut at first.....then it gets worse.

An apology wouldn't have gone amiss but no.....threads like this appear instead

To cause more harm than good......shame on them

if someone asks me to delete.....I will think about it

I deleted it.....so kill me!

Morning Mersey :-) perhaps I'm the opposite? lol, I mostly post 'serious' things so feel that it is sometimes wrongly assumed I have no sense of humour nor appreciate the lighter side of life lol :-)

I have deleted before, sometimes I am asked to remove a post/thread, also I post and feel it is not a post that should have been added, also and I will be truthful I am known for Happy, fluffy, fun threads which I personally like, but feel when I post on other threads with my own opinion, and yes I do have a serious side, not very often that my posts are looked down upon, sorry but thats how I feel and it is not a nice feeling....but you know what I rise above it and move on.....Im more cautious where I post because I feel sometimes my serious side is not wanted to be listened to or heard hence why I delete sometimes........

By the way this is not a woe is me on a thread, that is not what I am all about :-D :-D :-D

Thare is another reason which I missed out,

Sometimes it is all I can do ( having something of a temper) to stop myself being 'sharp', if I delete the thread it removes the temptation to 'lose it' and spill the beans as to 'where the bodies are buried' .

Probably best in that instance that I don't answer? :-)

Budgie Rustler

Budgie Rustler Report 20 Nov 2013 11:15

Staffs Col ...You`re not answerable to anyone if you delete a thread.
Why should you be matey? ;-)

Please don't give me that old thing about..
"Common courtesy demands an answer".
Not on a "Chat" board surely not, "General chat" is more about informality, mind you, that doesn't` mean you can afford to be discourteous towards others though.
:-D

I sometimes delete a thread, I did the other night.

There are a number of reasons, ALL down to previous experience.

I need to go out/ to bed/ answer the phone and I have learned that leaving a thread that may be controversial in some way for an indefinite period perhaps overnight, will almost certainly lead to it turning nasty when someone realises I am not there to delete it if necessary...ie I pre-empt deletion.

I know that someone has 'followed' me onto the thread to continue an argument from somewhere else.

It is a 'topic' thread ( a news item maybe) and I realise it has already got or had a thread devoted to it.

Someone on the thread is being racist or homophobic, unduly sexist, obscene, misogynistic etc ..it is quicker and easier to 'eliminate' them in an instant than have to report them and 'work around' the RR'd post.

The thread is argumentative, peopled by idiots who are too dense to string an intelligent sentence together, and it's MY thread so I CAN delete.

This last I don't often have as the reason for deletion, but it has certainly happened in the past :-)

Edit: I will allow however that if one has just typed a long reply and the thread goes just as one presses 'send' it can be very frustrating :-)
