I should have been at a St John's Ambulence meeting, as it was a Friday night.

For some reason I was very nervous and stayed in glued to the T.V instead.

Was watching either Double Your Money or Take Your Pick, it was interupped by the news flash.

I wasn't surprised by a news flash as had been feeling uneasy for the previous hour or so. But I was shocked by the news that President Kennedy had been shot.
Not sure what I had been expecting (except that it would be bad news) but it certainly not the assasination of the US President.

I haven't had any notable "bad feelings" about a major sad event before or since.

We didn't know till later in the evining that the President had died, just that he had been rushed to hospital. Nor were we told straight away that he had been shot in the head.

Still one of the most shocking News Flashes I have seen.

9/11 was at home as unwell, did not get any "bad feelings" at all. Was watching t.v. at first there was a "breaking news" report that a light aircraft had hit one of the twin towers. Not long afterward the whole story unfolded.

Was in the local Gaumont cinema with new hubby watching James Bond Doctor No film when the screen went blank and an announcement was made by the Manager who said that President Kennedy had been assassinated. The whole place went so quiet that you could hear a pin drop as we were all in shock.

I don't remember what I was doing but I do remember Millicent Martin singing that song on That Was The Week That Was.

Aberfan I have an overwhelming memory of the world being black and white and seeing the people digging on the television. The wife of the headmaster of the local primary school came from there. I think she went home.

9/11 was the only time I have ever been to stay with my cousin in Cambridgeshire. We leave the world to look after itself for one night and look what happens.

I can remember Yuri Gagarin going into space and Valentina Tereshkova.

That space shuttle that blew up on take-off. I can remember watching Christa McCauliffe's dad watching it. That has to be one of the most poignant things I have ever seen!

I cannot remember this day but I remember the day Churchill died....A friend had knocked for me to go to Sunday school and said 'Churchill has died' it has always stuck with me so had to look up to find out if I was dreaming this or not :-D

Yes he did die on a Sunday morning....but what a strange thing for two 6 year olds to be talking about :-)

I was 'dancing' at a Ballet School Christmas performance for parents. One came in with the news. Many of the mums started crying. We children didn't know who Kennedy was or why they were upset about the death of an American President.

I was sitting on a stool having a pint of real Guinness in Ward's Irish House underneath the London Pavilion when the news flashed up on their small black & white television - I often wonder what kind of world we would have today if he had lived.
