Can you remember what you were doing when President Kennedy was assassinated?

What other significant events can you remember?

I was not quite 6, and I remember seeing it on the news and my mum crying.

OH was in night school studying for his HND in engineering, I was alone waiting for him to come home - we were living in rooms in the centre of Cardiff at the time - the news came on the TV and then it all went black!!!

I was in Abergavenny the day of the twin towers in New York - was in the Principality Building Society and heard the cashiers talking about it - then on the way home we put the car radio on and herd the dreadful story

Day of the Aberfan disaster I was in work at the cigar factory where I was a secretary, it was a Friday, raining, and news started to filter through about lunchtime that some people had been killed in Aberfan - the reality of it then appeared on the local news - it ws th 21st October 1966 - the day from which I had to count the weeks of my pregnancy - son due on 28th July 1967

I was at home preparing for my engagement party with both sets of parents. It came on the news and it took the shine off the evening.

I watched a documentary on the JFK assassination last night and it seems pretty conclusive that although Oswald fired two shots, a secret service agent in a car a few cars back from the president's accidentally fired his gun and it was he who shot the president

There was a huge cover-up by the Secret Service and the White House on all levels - it was all highly believable

On stage with my bass guitar.
It was break-time & the radio was on in the bar off to one side of the stage. The lead singer announced it over his pa system. The audience thought he was joking – so he put the mike next to the radio. No more music that evening.

I was sitting on a stool having a pint of real Guinness in Ward's Irish House underneath the London Pavilion when the news flashed up on their small black & white television - I often wonder what kind of world we would have today if he had lived.

I was 'dancing' at a Ballet School Christmas performance for parents. One came in with the news. Many of the mums started crying. We children didn't know who Kennedy was or why they were upset about the death of an American President.

I cannot remember this day but I remember the day Churchill died....A friend had knocked for me to go to Sunday school and said 'Churchill has died' it has always stuck with me so had to look up to find out if I was dreaming this or not :-D

Yes he did die on a Sunday morning....but what a strange thing for two 6 year olds to be talking about :-)

I don't remember what I was doing but I do remember Millicent Martin singing that song on That Was The Week That Was.

Aberfan I have an overwhelming memory of the world being black and white and seeing the people digging on the television. The wife of the headmaster of the local primary school came from there. I think she went home.

9/11 was the only time I have ever been to stay with my cousin in Cambridgeshire. We leave the world to look after itself for one night and look what happens.

I can remember Yuri Gagarin going into space and Valentina Tereshkova.

That space shuttle that blew up on take-off. I can remember watching Christa McCauliffe's dad watching it. That has to be one of the most poignant things I have ever seen!

I was in commercial school when someone came in to say that the King had died - George V1th

My son rang me one Sunday morning to tell me that Diana had been killed - OH was on tour in Scotland with the choir - they cancelled immediately and came home

I was on holiday somewhere when I heard the news that Jim Reeves had been killed

Remembering the sad news of the passing of the late great Freddie Mercury 24th November 1991. He was one of my musical idols and still played very loud in this house

I had heard that a singer had died and asked a woman in the bus queue outside the ladies at the bus station who it was and she said it was Otis Redding.
