.........what would your initial reaction be if some customers had 2 dogs with them, one was on the bench next to his owner with his feet on the table being fed from his owners plate????

I would complain to the management and suggest it was breaking health and safety rules;. Dog under table maybe but not up at table. Although I have to admit to not liking dogs in restaurants at all I have got used to it a bit in Tenerife where it is accepted in lots of places. But under the chair or table and away from plates and food.

I would certainly complain....I love animals, but I cannot stand them near work surfaces or tables....
We discipline our children ,so what's wrong with animals knowing their place?

Was it a large chain or a freehouse?

When we ran a pub it was difficult to stop people coming in with their dogs (regular customers) if we upset them they would of gone elsewhere

The staff thought it was ok??? What sort of establishment is it?

Surely this contravenes health and safety rulings?

There is a lovely little dog who comes to our local bar every morning. They all sit at a table outside on the patio & he sits under a chair whith his own ice-cream in a plastic tub.
No problem to anyone (except the person paying for his ice cream)

I had the same experience some months ago, it was a place where we had been many times, and never seen dogs in the eating area,( I am not a dog lover). As we were eating there were two dogs walking about, I approached the manager and asked why dogs were wandering about, was told they did allow dogs but only in a specific area and the owner should have kept them there.

The manager approached the owner and told him to keep them under control in the designated area because he had received a complaint.

I understand he was greeted with a load of abuse as we were when they left.

This pub was part of a chain so I complained to the head office demanding my money back, I refuse to eat in a place where dogs are allowed, the exception being guide dogs etc.as far as I am concerned dogs should not be in eating places no matter how nice the little darlings are.

I did get my money refunded, I will not go back to that place again.

Not a big chain and the owners of said dogs were visitors to the town, my god he really me a verbal bashing, and because l asked the barmaid what her thoughts were on the subject ( l had to make myself heard because she was in a conversation with one owner, he was paying his bill)....l did not shout, but then got a right ear bashing from two women, for shouting across the bar, they were offended by that!!!!!!.....the manager then said " l had cleared the pub" but they were all leaving anyways and had been there before us, by the glasses and cups!!

still sticking me :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P out...lol

Apparently there is no law against animals being allowed in to pubs and restaurants it is up to the proprietor.

As long as the animal is not in the preparation, storage or serving area.......

Would just like to mention that the most unhygienic thing in a pub/restaurant is the chairs we sit on because they rarely get cleaned. :-0

Edited just to add I am not a dog owner.

l really don't have a problem with dogs being in the pub, every time we go in there we see dogs, none of any problem.....but this really took the biscuit...and l did'nt deserve to be spoken to like that, l will speak to the owner next time in town. Its possible the lady l think is the manager is also the owners wife...lol

George....so pleased you got your money back:))

Like the Ice Cream story:))

Our Madoc would be the biggest pain where food is being served, he is very food orientated!!....hence he does'nt go in pubs etc, infact we don't walk him in town at all.

It depends on the pub and the landlord. Landlords throw out unruly customers. They should do the same with unruly dogs.

I used to take my dog (now dead) into the pub when I felt like it (often) and he used to sit under the bench minding his own business and tolerating children in the summertime (large dog). I would never ever have let him on the table nor would he have tried it on. Jeez. If people who dislike dogs go into the sort of pub which may well encourage dogs ( people who look like they may be riff raff mates of Rollo, stone/wooden floors no carpet ) then they can only expect to be annoyed.

Then there are the foodie pubs which serve mutton dressed as lamb and at a high price too plus more than the average rate of food poisoning. Any self respecting dog would refuse to go in.

I <3 dogs

I'm an animal lover, but I agree with you Jude - in Belgium they allow dogs in restaurants and on the chairs and in the food preparation areas - they also seem to have them in bread shops too!! Not on - stick to your guns Jude :-D

In Australia dogs are not allowed at all in pubs or eating places other than guide dogs. Dogs are allowed in the garden area of pubs.

I have seen a number of dogs in eating places in the UK and they have all been well behaved. Don't think I could eat in a place that allows that sort of thing.

As one whose cat strolled across the dinner table when I was feeding friends I can only say it would feel like home.

Barmaid sounds pig ignorant.

Go on tell us the name of the pub, really get your revenge on the lairy cow!
