I posted a thread on this Board a few days ago regarding some explosives which were discovered close to where I live.

Police have still not ruled out a possible terrorist connection, and the whole area is swarming with police, and there are also the usual appeals for public help/information.

The explosives were found in the Leschenault Estuary which is a body of water some 12-15 kms long and about 2 kms wide.

As some people on these boards are aware, I usually go for a daily walk at the ungodly hour of 3.00am and walk for an hour or so.

My walk takes me along the Estuary.

This morning, on my return leg, a police van turned right from a road junction, pulled over to the side of the road on which I was walking, slowed down, and then just took off down the road.

No questions! No asking what I was doing out at 3.30am. Nothing!

I think that if my skin was a little less pale, I may have had more explaining to do!

obviously you do not look like a crim :-D

When I was working, some of the staff, myself included were going to enter into some inter local government games.

From our office I was the only male. I thought that the girls had organised some motel rooms, (the event was in Perth) but it turned out to be a house. Once I found out I immediately asked the girls if I would still be welcome to share. The ages of the girls ranged from about 16 to 40. It didn't help that I was a senior manager.

I did ask the girls, via the 40 yr old who had a couple of teenage children, if they still wanted me to share.

Any doubts whatsoever and I would sleep in my car as I had done previously.

I also thought that I had better let my OH know and see what her reaction would be....she said fine, no problems!

The girls...same reaction! Only condition I was not to wander round the house in my underwear!

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry that every one including OH thought that I was no threat :-(

I've never considered myself a ladies man, but honestly.....

* anyone stopped by police in Berkeley, California in the 1950s and 1960s who had less than $5 on them would be arrested for vagrancy.

We had one friend who delighted in going out for walks late at night, dressed in disreputable clothing ......................... and producing the $5 bill from a hidden pocket when stopped by the police!

Your post must have come through when I was replying to Nolls.

I'm not sure what the situation is regarding vagrancy in West Oz, but I did in fact have about $6.00 on me.

Most mornings I don't usually bother. Nor do I take my mobile or wallet.

I don't go at the early times on the weekends, as there are then usually groups of kids hanging about.

During the normal week other people probably don't go out early because they've heard rumours of this weirdo guy who walks early :-D :-D

I try to always remember to take my Care Card and Extended health Card with me when I go out walking .............. as ID


plus a book of Fare Tickets in case I need to catch a bus

I think it's an 'age' thing.
About 5 years ago, a friend and I decided to go west.
We ended up in Exmouth at about midnight.
Parked the car and slept in it. At about 2am the clubs emptied out and there were loads of 'merry' people walking past.
We decided to go for a walk until people had disappeared.
Found ourselves on a small bridge in a quiet part of town. As we were stood there, looking at Brunel's railway line, a jogger ran by, a car shot off, and the alarm went off in a shop.
We stood and watched the police arrive, search the premises and surrounding area. After about 20 minutes, a policeman came over and asked I we'd seen anything - obviously thought 2 old codgers couldn't be 'dodgy'!! Told them what we'd seen and went off.

Next morning, the car not being the most comfortable of sleeping places, we were back on the bridge at 6:am, when the alarm in the shop went off again!!
I suggested we scarpered. The police turning up and finding the same two loonies STILL on the bridge may be too much of a coincidence! :-S
