I was blocked on Facebook a while ago, so what I would like to know is can this person just unblock me or do they need to ask me to friend them again as well for me to see them on a mutual friends page.
Hope this makes sense.

If you are a mutual friends page then I think you both can read what each other write

I think they just have to unblock you for you to be able to read what they say on a mutual friends page.

I'm pretty certain they do not have friend you again

I'm saying that because I can see other people posting on my friends' pages, and I am not friends with those others

According to Facebook itself if someone blocks you it stops you starting conversations with them or seeing things they put on their Timeline but does not stop you seeing or commenting on things in shared places

Staffs

that's not correct!

we've just had a situation where one person blocked another on an FB page I go on to regularly.

Neither of them could see what the other had posted on any other of the 3 shared sites we had in common

Sorry but I've only copied what I have just read from the drop down box on Facebook :-(

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 6 Nov 2013 07:47

well, it seems that what they say is not what really happens!!

is anyone surprised? :-D

If you were blocked then that person can just unblock you and FB will then "work normal" between you and them depending on what other security/privicy settings they have,

Unblock does not reniew the friend as a friend in your friends list, one of you would need to send a friend request and the other would need to accept it

I will explain it this way zzzzzzzzzz.. oops dropped off to sleep

Say Sylvs and I are in a FB group together and I block Sylvs... but no one else in the group.

1) if I start a thread Sylvs cannot see that thread or what any of our other mates say.

2) If Sylvs starts a thread the same thing happens

and then there is 3) Agatha Bagwash starts a thread .. Sylvs can see it and I can see it but if Sylvs posts an entry on that thread I cannot see her comments and vice versa.

Hope that explains it very clearly.

You are now unblocked Sylvs..

Facebook has a lot of wonderous happenings .. eg you are in a group you go to that group page and you may only look at one of the threads started but at the top of every other thread that you have not looked at all it will give your name as having seen it... all because you have been on the page.

Facebook has a bit of trouble separating fact from fiction/fantasy at times.

Persie ;-)

Edit: and because different people see my wall some now know me as Persie even though I am not Persie on Facebook.. but some people call me by that name.

Even my SIL called me Persie one day..

Persie, I'm puzzled by what you say about ones name being given on group threads.
I belong to a couple of groups but haven't noticed any name other than the thread author at the top. Not doubting, just curious :-)

jax Report 6 Nov 2013 15:37

I think what Persie is saying is that she has been called Persie on her private group pages and her own wall....even though she goes by her real name on FB.

I am happy to be called Jax on private groups and my own wall...but would rather be referred to as my real name on public pages like GR ect.

As a person who has been blocked recently I can vouch for what Sylvia and Persie have said

edit - If you are then unblocked then anything you were unable to see while being blocked is now visible

I was unblocked but not friended by the person

Persie ................

thank you for unblocking me!! :-D :-D

even though I was asleep when you did it, and knew nothing about it :-D

that raises memories of Friends reunited between about 2004 and 2007 ....................... the had full time Moderators who used to give out bans if anyone reported a post.

The ban could be anything from 1 minute up to permanent

:-D :-D :-D

it was quite fun to have been on there posting away ............ then open your email to discover that you had 3 or 4 1 minute bans in that time!

Jax, thanks but I meant this bit " at the top of every other thread that you have not looked at all it will give your name as having seen it... all because you have been on the page."

jax

jax Report 6 Nov 2013 20:04

Ok

On private group pages at the top of each thread it tells you who has seen it

If there is 20 in the group it could say seen by all or 15 people have seen it then it will list those people.

What we have now discovered is it will say you have seen a certain thread just because you visited the page....when you may not have read the thread at all

Island

Island Report 6 Nov 2013 20:18

Jax, so does a 'private group' work diferently to a 'closed group'?

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 6 Nov 2013 20:33

Wow thank you everyone I've learned a lot and it is in plain English, I just can't always understand what they mean on FB.
I think I she has unblocked me hoping I will friend her but it ain't going to happen.
Thanks again.

jax

jax Report 6 Nov 2013 20:37

Closed and private work the same, except you can search for a closed group but not a private one

I should say secret group rather than private group

Island

Island Report 6 Nov 2013 23:57

Curiouser........I belong to a closed group but don't see any other name at the top of threads other than the thread creator.
I'm intrigued now.

jax

jax Report 7 Nov 2013 00:47

When someone starts a new thread in your closed group underneath the post...before any replies it should say 'seen by (number)'

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 7 Nov 2013 00:52

Island ...............

This is from a closed group that I am in ....................
