Sappho ................
if you mean threads you started ....................
simple.
Go back to the thread you started, click on Delete on your Opening Post,.
That deletes the whole thread
If you mean comments you made on threads started by others ...............
then you have to go back the the relevant thread and delete every single comment you made individually.
But be warned .................... for weeks, if not months, there has been a crimp in the system
deleting your posts does NOT remove them from appearing in your My Threads :-D

There's no quick way, you have to delete individually the threads started by you, and you can't delete other people's threads. I think GR was working on some way of removing other people's threads from 'My threads', but I don't think they ever got around to it...unless anyone knows different?

RR ................
deleting your posts from someone else's thread used to remove that information from your My Threads
But something in the system broke down :-)
But why worry about it?
The information is stored on GR's servers and 'puters, not on ours ............. so it is not taking up any space on our own computers.
Threads will slowly descend to the back of the line as they get older and no-one replies!

Ok folks, I knew you would to the 'party'!
What it is is this: I have My Threads and My Watch Threads.
I wish to delete certain threads from My Threads that I have added there many years ago and I am now loaded with them without relevance to me.
My Watch Threads I note I am able to delete by left side box.
But not the My threads. Shall follow first reply first then if that does not work, I will come back. Sounds like it is not easy, but just too much information on my computer.
Thanks so much for replies - will let you know how i\I get on.
Great people you are!!

Opps Sylvia in C you have answered it.
Just thought it was slowing my computer. I hold so much information now.
Thanks will see - but think that there should be a way. I would understand if it affected my own personal threads, where I like to leave info for researches to come in on if they wish, but not old threads belonging to others.
Thanks

This is a LONG ongoing issue,& even though GR team are well aware of the "problem" & has been for VERY long time, they have NOT done anything about it.
This is the last reply I received from GR regarding this matter back in April, I have had several before this one saying the same thing!..........
4-4-13.....
Dear Joan Thanks for coming back to us We've recently changed our bug reporting system and I've moved this particular issue to our new system to be looked at. I'm really sorry it's taking so long to fix this - I can understand how frustrating this must be to see threads you no longer require in this list........... Kind Regards, Rachel Genes Reunited Support Team
I dont care that threads are not stored on my computer, I like to keep things "tidy" (each to their own) & I personally can't see the point in having 1000's of no longer relevant & no longer interesting threads & posts hanging around!
Joan.

Hi from NZ,
Amokavid - Joan, this is really what I am on about. Why can't we delete what we do not wish to store on our My Threads - some are now irrelevant and this is my point - I wish to delete some of them so I do not have to trawl through them when I seek something. Surely my choice.
Thank you for the information you sent to Rachel at Genes. I will try to make contact with genes and see what they suggest!!
Thank you all for your suggestions and support.

Hello again,
Just off to bed, but I think I may have solved it. could someone please try it out for me and let me know if it is yes or no. Thanks:
1) Go to My Threads 2) Right-hand Click on item you wish to remove 3) Click on Open Link In New Window 4) Click box at top which states Watch List 5) Go into My Watched Threads and pick up thread 6) Click on delete box - right-hand side of thread 7) Click right-hand side bottom Update.
I think this may be the answer.
Please let me know. It appears to work for me, but need someone else to confirm.
Thanks,
Sappho

they are NOT stored on your own computer.
They are stored at GR
so they are not taking up room

that's what we've been trying to say.
You CAN delete the posting ................ but it is no longer removing that thread from your My Threads!
You should be able to remove a posting on a thread in My Threads by clicking on that thread, going to your post, and simply clicking on DELETE
If you repeat that for every post of yours on that thread, then that SHOULD remove the notification from My Threads
I bet if you go back to the post you delete as above, it will not be on the thread ............ but the thread will still be showing as if it was there.
It used to work beautifully .............. but something happened in an update about 2 years ago that means it no longer removes the thread.
When one contacts GR, you get the generic answer ................... basically "this must be annoying. I'll contact our technical team"
but nothing ever happens!
If you want proof, go to the Suggestions Board, and see how many times this (and other simple things) have been reported to GR, and for how long.
I think they have sooooooooooooooo many problems, and are also trying to update and change the site, and they have so few people, that they just never get around to it.

Hello from NZ
Thank you SylviainCanada. I did understand you and know that it is not on my computer, but still a pain.
I thought I had it, but that was being a bit too clever eh! This am they are all still in My Threads so I shall maybe give up. So impractical that I just do not understand why Genes cannot sort it. For instance there was a heading What Kind of Things do you remember from Childhood. I enjoyed this and added a comment - it is on my My Threads with 2942 view and 31,635 comments. Now do I really need to keep that! It's outrageous!!
Thank you so much.

But to delete that comment or comments in the thread you would have to find them and then delete...as the system does not work you may as well leave them
I have loads of posts on a Long running thread and there is no way I am going to go through it all to find them all to delete...I am talking a couple of thousand
The only way they would go is if the OP deleted the thread

Yes, fully understood Jax - my point exactly - the whole things is a bit of a pain in more ways than one.
I think we cannot be please with genes on this one and still no reply - 24-48 hours and we shall see. I do think they will reply and then I can let you all know - but when??
Thanks for your input Jax - appreciated, but when you say I may as well leave them, it is just that which irks us.

it's the weekend in London :-D
They do not seem to have staff in the office from about 4 or 4:30 pm on a Friday to 8 or 8:30 am on a Monday morning capable of answering questions, reviewing posts, etc etc
My dad would have called it "working bankers' hours" :-D
You SHOULD get a reply sometime after 8:30 am Monday morning, UK time

Thank Sylvia,
That really is appreciated. Thought they may be there just to answer my queries - how wrong can you be !!!!
What this about banking hours. Spent 24 years in Banking and we worked 8.30 to 5, but UK 10 to 3pm?
Thanks you are all so helpful and understanding and good to know that I am not the only one who would like an answer.
Just off to visit a friend in hospital. Its a lovely Spring day here - 22 degrees.
Thanks again.
Getting to know things better as time goes on.

Just to keep you informed: My reply from Genes:-
"Thanks for your email
I'm really sorry if we have misunderstood your query.
I'm afraid this is actually a bug with the site.
GR_B-67 My threads - if you delete your post from a thread- thread still stays in my threads
the developers are aware of this problem and hope to resolve it soon.
Kind Regards,"
Received yesterday.

I am so glad I saw this discussion, I thought it was me going mad! The other night when I joined so that I could contact people about a DNA project, I was reading old discussions related to the name in question and I saw messages saying things like 'yes Sue you have found the family' ... and thought think Sue? Who is Sue? and What family? because the person seemed to be talking to a ghost and there was no family there to see, and there would be a whole series of messages addressed to an invisible person about invisible information! Well I reckon whoever posted the information must have got bored of seeing the thread in 'my threads' and deleted the messages .............. and that means that when I read the discussion now I have no idea what the information was and whether it is related to the families I am searching for.
Nothing that we write on the internet is stored on our own computers ........... unless we copy it there. :-) In fact I am grateful for the 'my threads' feature because I am used to another family history board that doesn't have it (and before that I had been used to other kinds of internet forums that did have it so I miss it there!) .......... and also does not allow for deleting messages. That makes it a treasure trove of information that people do find when they search the internet too. And I am also grateful for the 'watched threads' feature because I found I could mark a very old thread 'watched' so I can go back to it and not have to put a message in it to get it in 'my threads' ......... because I discovered that if you put messages in old threads it makes you look like an idiot. :-) Anyway it just seems a shame to me to keep information that is in one's own threads but delete information one has given in someone else's threads because along comes someone like me (or maybe even the person whose thread it is herself because she thought the information was safe there) and it's gone .......
