There have been some lovely comments on here regarding the dreadful bushfires in NSW. Apart from smoke drifting down from the mountains I personally am safe but so many people have lost their homes and sadly it will get worse before it gets better.

The true heroes are the firefighters - brave men and women who risk their lives to save others. Our local newspapers and others have an interactive page where messages can be left to show appreciation for what they do. There are comments from around the world. If you would like to add to these comments here is the site.

I think most of us in the UK find it difficult to imagine what it must be like to see these fires coming closer and closer to your home, and those firefighters are absolute heroes - here's hoping for some rain maybe, or the winds to die down enough to help

Thinking about you all.
It was February last year when I was in the blue mountains and for those who haven't seen the expanse of eucalyptus trees ,it is hard to comprehend the extent of the area that is affected.
Such a beautiful part of the country, but so devastating for those living there and wondering if it will reach their homes.
The firemen are so brave and most are volunteers.
I will add to the site.
My son in Sydney lives south of the city, but they wake up smelling smoke .hope they can contain the fires and the wind drops...and a good downpour of rain would be the best of all. <3

My Aunt and cousin live in Sydney and they emailed me to say they are safe about 50 miles away from the worst, but the haze and smell of the smoke is awful.

i feel for those who have lost their homes and everything.

Lets hope the weather changes and pours hard for a few days.

Thinking of all our genes members who are nearby, hope you all are safe.

Both my sons and families live in the Snowy Mts near Cooma where there are fires been trying to get in touch with either one but just can't get through just keep hoping they will get in touch. We are also thinking of all the people affected and pray for a very quick end to the misery they are going through.

Fred - my thoughts are with you. Being so far away it must be very worrying for you.

Here is the Royal Fire Service site which will give you accurate information.
