and other programmes of that ilk, you often see what are always described as 'chocolate box cottages', and I was thinking what a shame it is that chocolate boxes are now so dull, no pretty pictures of cottages or gardens or kittens... and when the weight was not quiet perfect they added in some extra chocolate buttons or similar.

Even after the chocs were gone you kept the box because it was so pretty, and maybe kept love letter in it, tied with ribbon :-)

Lets face it, even the chocolates aren't as nice as they used to be. Cheaper substitutes for favorite chocs. ......not the same anymore.

I was just having a look through images to see if anyone sold chocolates in a pretty box, and came acroos this blog which has a picture of a cadbury's box and echoes the sentiment "Why oh why dont they make chocolate boxes like this anymore?"

That's true Janet, I had a box given to me recently and they were awful, even the strawberry creams :-(

Try this. No pretty boxes, but superb, proper chocolates and you don't have to have a box every month. You can have one as often as you want. Current cost is £18.95 inc. p&p, for 30 chocs. They make good presents, too.

Whenever someone says that, I wonder how many people even remember chocolate boxes like that Rose, not sure my kids would, and if I said it to my Grandchildren, they wouldn't even know what I was on about, no change there then :-D

Easter Eggs that had the chocolates inside and came in lovely boxes.

My favourite chocolates were Terry's Spartan. Dark chocolate and all hard centres.

I am sure the Hotelchocolat factory was near where I used to live....Someone who worked there used to get hold of the misshaped ones ....very nice they were to

Edit= just checked and they seem to be still there

I also miss the tins of toffees with maybe a little girl on the lid or a kitten.

We have Montezumas locally but it is expensive and I generally only buy chocolate for the carers.

They don't appreciate that and always dig about in the basket to see if they can find something better so I am not wasting good stuff on them. So there!

Oh dear, sorry Rose but I had some tins like you describe and gave them to a charity shop a couple of weeks ago.

Those tins would be worth money now ZZzzz

I remember pretty chocolate boxes and probably have a couple tucked away with keepsakes inside. I love fancy tins too and do have several nice ones from years back and more recently. I still have my Coronation tin that contained toffees.

I like the Rose Creams and the Violet creams sold by Hotel Chocolat and Holland and Barrett sell similar ones, so you can buy one flavour or the other depending which is your favourite.

I remember the lovely pictures on chocolate boxes. Is the lack of pictures all down to cost or just a sign of the time?

Hotel chocolate is delicious and you can go online to Thorntons and have photos of your choice put onto gift boxes and then select which chocolates you want in the box.

Tenerife Sun, I think you may have put the wrong link there :-D Edit...ah you've changed it lol

there is a Hotel Chocolat in the town centre, I've never been in, and it always seems empty but maybe I should go and have a look :-)

Your soft centre is showing Rose. And that could almost have been the start of an essay for the writers thread. I was just imagining it in Dermot's words.

And yes I do remember the pretty boxes and tins.
