The rescue dog we got in December died yesterday. It was such a shock as he was fit and well at 10.00pm the night before. He woke me at 5.15 am and as I was getting up at six I let him out and made my usual cuppa. He was very fidgety and I thought he may want to relieve himself in the park just over the road from us, so at 6.00am I took him. It normally takes about 3 mins but he kept laying down. It took me 1hr to get him home and I immediately rang the emergency vet who advised me to get him to our local vet who opened at eight. I had to carry him to the car and we arrived at the vets at 7.55am. As we got into the vets he took his final breath. He sleeps at the side of my bed and had not stirred during the night, he had eaten his evening meal and had his chew after his last walk at 9.30pm. He had not been sick and appeared perfectly normal. The vet said she thought he had picked up a bug, possibly the same one that had made my other dog so ill 3 weeks before. However, as he had had his spleen removed before we got him she thinks his immune system was compromised and that he couldn't fight it off. So suddenly though? I am distraught as he was the kindest most loving dog and after the trauma of his former life he was happy to be able to run free. :-( <3 RIP Jay boy |

how awful for you - I'm so sorry - it's heartbreaking when you lose a pet - at least you gave him a happy life for the short time he was with you - he knew he was loved |

My little Missie who was so ill at 161/2 has recovered well but she is missing Jay as they shared a bed from the second day of getting him. All I keep saying is WHY he deserved at least a few more years of love and happiness. |

I agree with you, Elaine, he deserved at least a couple of years with loving owners - but you did your best, and he was loved. |

Elaine, I am really sorry to read this, poor Jayboy had so much to live for with your care and kindness and the companionship of Missie as well. I know you will miss him so much and the shock of his sudden passing will have given you no chance to do anything or feel prewarned. At least he didn't suffer a long drawn out passing and you were with him to the end, he will have felt comforted by that and the love he felt. |

I am sorry that your lovely dog has gone. You made the short time he was with you the best part of his life, there is nothing more you could have done for him. He died a happy dog because of you |

Looks to me like you had topped up his supply of love to get him to wherever he was going. |
