John - Funny you should mention Ted Bovis and Barry. The Hi De Hi programmes were actually filmed in the holiday camp in Dovercourt, where Pat and I worked (as well as many other people). Was Warners Holiday camp. No longer there, new houses etc there. Shame really.
And as for me - Peggy seems apt at times LOL

Pat quite a character.

Sorry, folks. I kept getting this blessed error message again. Driving me mad today.

When normal service eventually resumed, I guessed there would be millions of posts as I had kept backspacing and trying to post again and again. Forgotten that eventually all the messages are sent.

Now spent a few minutes deleting them all. Agree that it wasn't the funniest comment ever made, but at least my hiccups amused :-) ;-)

Can imagine him as a cross between Ted Bovis and Barry when he was in holiday camps. Who were you most like, Liz?

I would be like the one with the punch and judy show. :-)

Silly Sausage

Silly Sausage Report 13 Aug 2013 22:34

I bet he was :-D he admitted he was a ladies man and it was his decision to leave the family however it very sounds to me like it was the mothers decision to use her daughter as a weapon ....I find that vile actually :-D

I'm another who thought that a six year old wouldn't have quite said that remark. Think the father is very lucky his daughter has forgiven him, he must have put her mother through it musn't he? with his many affairs.

.... did you know him then Liz?

The mother who 'lost her son' looked genuinely relieved to see her son again and she looked so happy!

Found last night's episode interesting for two reasons.
The father/daughter part was partly filmed, where I live for some years - Dovercourt, Essex.
The other reason, I worked in the same holiday camp in Dovercourt, as the father, back in 78 and 79.

I Also said to my hubby,"thats not the sort of thing a six yr old would say" even today you wouldnt have a six yr old say something like that.

it makes my heart bleed to see these woman still in so much pain 50 and 60yrs later, how terrible it must have been to be forced to give up your baby. :-(

Hope they have another series. I suppose Davina and Nicky have been good enough to retain. I like the format of having 2 stories per programme. I only noticed one major change in the last programme - only one recent photo instead of customary four.

I wondered if some of the Genes staff could be involved more, as it is sponsored by them. One or two would look very good in front of camera and seem very nice (yes, they have given me loads of warnings :-( :-() But I speak as I find, and they could be TV stars on the sidelines.

I also thought today that Emma Forbes would be very good. She is an excellent and sympathetic presenter who is not all gushy and girly.

I don't think people always realise how very different adoption was years ago, and also how much hold parents had over their daughters.
I have mentioned before my half brother - my mother was allowed to take him home to her parents on condition that she worked to support him, he was put into a nursery while she worked, and she too total care of him.
When she went to collect him after work one day he was gone, her parents had arranged his adoption.
That just couldn't happen now. That was also earlier than the case last night but things were still very different even then.

She did get him back eventually :-)
