just heard that my Uncle is on the critical ward

What the shit is that and why can´t I get through

So effing angry and for the 1st time am leaking water well more like a fountain.

I feel more for my Uncle ...he lost his oldest grandchild aged 21 and then a week later l told him he had lost the sis he had just found was no more.

Eff is all I can say I feel so damn helpless

If your uncle is in UK Uzzi they often don't have reception staff to answer phones on the wards at night time, so if the staff are busy with the care of patients the phone has to wait :-(
If you can't get through to hospital it may be due to high volume of calls :-(
Doesn't help you though.
Your uncle will be getting the intensive care he needs - I hope things improve soon

Hi Uzzi,

I'm sorry to hear about your Uncle. Are you his next of kin, if so perhaps ring the switch board and ask for the Duty Matron. The Matron may not be able to give clinical details due to Patient confidentiality but may be able to at least try to put you in the picture. Are there any other family members here in the UK who could visit and pass information to you.

Teresa, no I am not his next of kin far from it. My other Uncle and Aunt are keeping me informed but it´s so hard being so far away at times.
I have been sitting here for 2 hours wondering if it´s too early to phone the UK knowing that if there is news they will phone me.

It's not too early now Uzzi.......go for it - if you haven't already done so. It's so horrible being stuck far away when there is a crisis in the family.

Tried to phone but I guess 1 brother is traveling half way across the UK to be with the other.
I only got back intouch with my Uncles in the last 2 years and sadly I don´t know my cousins that well so don´t have phone numbers for them.

I expect they are concentrating on getting the information themselves Uzzi. Maybe as soon as they know the problem and what is happening they will let you know, I hope so anyway. <3

Finally got in touch
Unc will be okay sort of. He collapsed after hearing that Son In Law has terminal cancer. After losing a sister a grandchild and now a SIL all in 1 month has taken it´s toll.

But my Uncle will pull through medically at least.

Critical ward ...really means equipment at hand and very often one to one nurseing ,.................

CCU is crititcal care unit!! means we can and will..............

the wards are we will if we can!!

Normally called ICU - they have for relatives a direct line through.

Try switchboard and ask for ICU - you should get through.

Thanks Kemp not being funny but after 24hrs I guess i have worked it out but whence did they have a critical under ICU, beyond me

I had this problem a few year's ago with nephew,get the next of kin to set up a pass word with the staff,
on using the pass word they will speak to you.

Glad you have managed to find out what is going on anyway Uzzi. Nasty shock for your uncle and, of course for his son in law. Not a good year for your family.
