Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 4 Aug 2013 06:24

O.h. and I are visiting Yorkshire next week from Wednesday to the following Monday, just a few days he could fit in to the holiday rota at work but they coincide with a certain friend coming over for a wedding so we will be meeting up with her and her hubby (meeting him for the first time) and others of our 'gang'.

Will we make it this time? After the problems with holidays over the past months I am hoping our plans work out this time altho o.h. did come back from work on Thursday saying he had a pain so went to the doc on Friday to be given antibiotics and tests done re an infection. Not sure if the results will be back before we leave but he says the pain is less now

We have rented a cottage out in the sticks it seems, at a place called Wroot. Funnily enough the owner and her grandchildren travelled to Norfolk yesterday - the Broads, just up the road from here - for a week's holiday.

Hoping to fit in some r and r as well as some sightseeing - forecast isn't wonderful but as long as it stays fairly dry and not too chilly I will be happy.

If anyone around the Rotherham/Doncaster sort of area wants to meet up, give me a shout and I will try and sort something out.

Just cross your fingers for us please that we get away this time without further mishaps. O.h. got a chest infection when away in Feb so hope this time all goes ok.

Oooh, Liz, I would love to come to Yorkshire with you. It is possibly my favourite place in England. Two of my gt grandparents came from there.

Did you see that Sylvia googled san fairy ann for you? She came up with the answer.

Haven't seen that Huia, where has she put it? I wish you could come too, but the lottery let me down again, sorry!

Oh and yes, I know Wroot is in Lincolnshire but it's more Yorkshire we are aiming to see with maybe a visit to Gainsborough if we get time and calling in at Lincoln on the way back as well, to see Lincoln Cathedral.

Thanks Lynda, will be good to get away altho I have some trips planned for myself alone later on when I work out the dates .

Well here I am, back safe and sound, and had a lovely time in Wroot. Wish we had booked for longer now as the cottage was really lovely, the garden of the owner which we were allowed to use, was very special and the whole time was good. We had a really relaxing time, didn't do as much as we intended but it didn't matter. We went to Bawtry which is a nice place and I bought a remnant of fabric with cats on very similar to the pattern on a cushion on the garden chairs under the pergola so when I make my own cushion it will remind me of the holiday. We also visited Epworth where John Wesley's church is situated, in St Andrews which has been refurbished through Lottery funding and is a lovely church, we were offered tea and biscuits and had a nice chat with a lady called Penny, who told us all about the work done and the excavations carried out ( remains of a Saxon church were found under the old concrete floor). At the other church there were chickens roaming the grass area outside, most unusual.

The bedroom I had at the cottage was decorated in lilacs and purples and had a large print of Rennie Mackintosh furniture on the wall, so I was well pleased. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful and we managed a walk up to the edge of Hatfields? Moor one evening, the weather was good all the time we were there.

On Sunday we met up with Sheila and her husband and Dutch and Jan, together with Dutch's grandson Anthony and his girlfriend who we met last year. They are a lovely young couple. After stuffing ourselves to bursting with a great carvery lunch we went back to Sheila's for a while and then back to our cottage. Dutch was here to attend her granddaughter's wedding yesterday so I hope that went well. Her other granddaughter should have had her second baby by now but no sign yet, it would be good if it arrived before Dutch returns home later this week.

It was lovely to meet Jan at last, he is a nice man and looks after Dutch well.

I am sure we will go back to Wroot to spend longer in the area, and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the cottage and the fabulous garden again.

Thanks Huia and Ann.

Scozz, of course you can, but you will have to have the other single bed in o.h.'s room lol I like that purple bedroom to myself. It had an outrageous bedside lamp on one side with different patterned purple panels on the shade and purple feathers all round the bottom edge. A real statement piece!

I would recomment the cottage to anyone, it was so well appointed and lots of nice touches, pretty containers of tissues in each room, all your washing up stuff there etc etc Much more than we usually find in places more expensive.
