I've read about that Von - amazing thought isn't it? So much we don't know - so much more to discover. :-)

Unless your ashes are rocketed into space we all return to the soil to join everyone who has lived before us.
If you believe in evolution then you are returning to the place from which living creatures evolved.
What I do find fascinating is that we were carried inside our maternal grand mothers.

I can't honestly say it's a concept I have given much thought to Sharron, possibly because I believe that we are all a 'one off' - and unique to boot!! :-D

Christianity as a faith does tend to reject the thoughts of re-incarnation for various reasons, but there are always people who will question things - which is fair enough. That's how we learn.

In a way, re-incarnation makes me think of someone being re-cycled and, personally, I think we are worth more 'individual' than that.

I remember someone once saying that, if there is nothing after death, what is the point of life?

What brought all this on anyway.? ........ ;-)

Tenerife Sun Report 29 Jul 2013 11:26

Well I'm counting on there being something more after death, and if I'm honest this kept me going after my husband died.

A few things have happened to me, nothing major, that have also helped to convince me that death is only the end of life as we know it and there is more that we are not clear about.

Sharron

The language may not be of the best but what do you think of the concept?

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 29 Jul 2013 08:51

'How about if......', is a sentiment we could use on almost any situation or issue though Sharron.

IF is a little word with huge implications and is really based on assumptions and suppositions - perhaps, maybe etc.

There are so many situations we could visualise or imagine but, it's best to take a deeper look into things, follow your heart and see where it leads you. :-)

'The Lord does not burden us with the foreknowledge of what is to come'.

How about if you go on and on but just get put into a different container each time.

Like you still have the same intelligence but you can only use what your container allows.

A woodlouse could be as intelligent as you, and almost certainly as intelligent as me, but doesn't have hands or vocal cords so can only scuttle about and eat rotting wood.

Sheila - again, another question which one has to look at personally.

C. S. Lewis puts it rather well, in my own personal view.

'You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.'

In Christian theological terms, human beings are the only ones who have a soul.

There are mixed views within the Christian church on the re-incarnation issue :-S

It's often helpful for folks to delve into such issues a little deeper, just to see where they stand on things.

Hope this helps. Cx :-)

I remember arguing about death last Autumn with a famous poster who cannot be named but whose name began with E.

I am a born again Christian. He had no faith and believed we became dust and eventually nothing was left of either our soul or body. We were both committed to our faith or lack of faith and got more than a little frustrated with each other at times. But always remained polite.

I myself believed in destruction of body and soul after death (is it called something like nihilism?) until my dad died 35 years ago. Life's experiences (and advancing age and inevitable death probably) make us all review our position and look into what will happen to us. I feel confident now I have all the answers, but would never dream of forcing them on others.

I'm not argueing theology Barney, I'm 'suggesting' that IF one had previous lives, it wouldn't be a good idea if you remembered them all whilst trying to live this one.

For example, if you found yourself constantly thinking 'Now what did I do when presented with this situation in my past life/lives, was that the right or wrong action to take?' it might lead to indecision at best lol.

I don't believe in a 'soul' - what is it anyway? And if we have one, why doesn't every ant, fly, cat, horse, elephant and gorilla etc....We are all made of the same 'stuff' Just because the human brain has evolved to give us conscience, a greater range of emotions, self-awareness and more, doesn't mean that death bequeaths us anything other than a path to dust.

Oh come on Rose. You cannot argue theology with a TV Science Fiction Series.
That is going too far.

Rambling

Rambling Report 28 Jul 2013 16:23

It's a theory that we have had a previous physical existence, the 'soul' returns to 'heaven' and then is 'reborn' to continue its journey... 'past life memories' are not unknown, sometimes by very young children 'remembering'...whether you believe that or not, if it was the case it would be almost essential NOT to be able to remember

If you're a Dr Who fan think of when Donna took on the Dr''s memory....her brain was basically being overloaded, it's certainly as much as my brain can cope with dealing with THIS life, let alone what may have happened previously :-)

Frederick...I've never heard that expression

Barney...ummm no, there's more to life and death than that. Maybe we don't understand everything as we never knew about space and thought the world was flat :-D. The soul goes on. I too have a few unanswered questions Sharron but I am sure that when you die that's not the end, the end of life yes but there is something more.

Everybodies understanding of everything will vary and on this subject probably more than most

BarneyKent

BarneyKent Report 28 Jul 2013 15:57

Succinctly put Cynthia. We all believe what we believe.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 28 Jul 2013 15:38

Sharron, you'll get many different answers to your question, and they will come from those with faith and those with no faith. It's probably something you will have to delve into yourself to find what is right for you. :-)

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 28 Jul 2013 13:46

My hubbies grandad died on the overnight of a Sat/Sun ,our daughter was born on the Monday

Grandma woke to find him dead beside her.

The family were OH NO Shirley is in labour so we dont want to add to her worries but hubby came into see me on the Sunday and he was a bit quiet I took it he was worried about me and said I am OK dont worry He was I know but still wasnt opening up so I asked why. he didn't want to say but I had a flash of intuition and said is it grandad?? he then admitted it was.

Daughter was born the following day . I would have loved to have put his grt grandaughter in his arms.

In our daughters place two went to make way for her cos my maternal gran died too 3 weeks before she was born.

I used to sit with gran in the afternoon and we had tea and cakes and lots of chats . wish I could remember now some of the family chit chat she said .

The day of her funeral I was admitted to hospital with edema and signs of pre eclampsia. Still took another 15 days for daughter to arrive

You cannot remember anything before birth because there was nothing before birth. Just as there is nothing after death. You are born, you live, you die. End of.
