why should dogowners be singled out for littering? how many fines for horses dropping their muck on roads??

there should be litter dropping lessons for school kids...........around here every house has at least two wheelie bins.........what do the kids and adults do? drop their litter and leave it where it falls............how much common sense and energy would it take to lift a lid and drop it in a bin..........

disgraceful to be fined for such a thing - what next - farmers fined for letting their sheep leave clumps of wool on brambles?

I think they were right to fine her and as Bobtanian says, horses leave a heck of a lot of mess and as far as I know, the riders don't have to clean up.

Saying that though, as a dog owner who always cleans up if our dog makes a mess outside, I once fetched a dustpan and brush and made a horse rider sweep up her horse's manure from opposite the school where she was chatting to friends.

She wasn't a happy bunny :-D :-D

I feel that is a bit over the top, I agree that dog owners should be fined for not picking up their dogs mess and the fine should be really big.
I also think dogs should be on a lead at all times in public areas.

I cant understand why this lady did not groom her dogs in her own garden, perhaps she did not want all the mess :-) :-) so not really any pity for her.

AnnCardif, sheep are always on private land, never seen them roaming round in parks, then again I don't live in Wales.

How times have changed...as a child I can remember going out with the shovel and putting the horse droppings on the roses. .....and no it wasn't called droppings in those days.

As for the dog hairs, no I don't think they should be left in the park, ,,,,again when I was young, dogs were not allowed in the park.

Reminds me of an older colleague who used to insist on clipping his finger nails in the office......yuk....jl

The silly woman should have groomed her dogs in her own space......not other peoples'.

Or, at the very least, taken the rubbish home with her...........

If she was in the car when the photographs were taken, she obviously had no intent of clearing up the litter she had created .

I shall have to cover my dogs from head to toe, then, to avoid them shedding hair when they run in the park or when somebody strokes them and loosens some hair! Maybe these jobs-worths would like to come to our park and fine the rabbits, not to mention the foxes and deer.

Kitty/Janet, I used to be sent out with a shovel and bucket by my father to collect the droppings from the milkmans' horses - the dairy was just a short distance away. We always had lovely roses and rhubarb!

as you say George - I'm in Wales and it is certainly not uncommon to see sheep on the roadsides

I can understand that dog hair is a natural substance, that birds & animals can use it as bedding, but as we are in the middle of a heat wave, warm nests are not liable to be a priority for them.

When I groom my rabbit in our back garden, the area round me looks like I have slaughtered one. If I do not gather it up it blows round or sits there until the next mow, I can only think that the hair from 2 large dogs would be a real eyesore.

I am also a bit concerned about the dander (flakes of dead skin) that the brushing released into the air in a public place, which many people are allergic to.

So, Carol, should I not groom my dogs in my garden in case the dander gets blown outside into the street? She wasn't fined for grooming her dogs - she was fined for dropping litter.

I know give all the park keeps guns and they can then shoot all the ducks & swans etc., when they lose feathers which also litter the park.

Utterly stupid.

its a good job i now have a short haired doggy

It was actually a very large amount of hair that she dropped, imagine a child picking it up. Again, nothing to do with liking or not liking dogs, you wouldn't think of emptying your hoover/cleaner in a public space so why large clumps of dog hair?
