OH was born in Oldham :-D

Just remembered that the legal name for a tippler toilet was a Waste Water Closet

We were back in Oldham in September 2001, and visited my aged aunt who still lived about 3 blocks from where I was born.

The house I was born in, and my grandfather's house were both still there. I didn't have the nerve to knock at either door, and ask to see the inside.

I gather they last sold for around the £80,000 for ours and £95,000 for my grandfather's larger one.

I do hope they no longer had the Waste Water Closet in the back yard :-D

By contrast, the house we moved to had been knocked down and replaced with a grassy knoll ............ there had been major redevelopment of that ward in the mid- to late-1970s, which led to knock down of everything.

So, the solid stone house, built around the 1850s, was demolished ............. while the brick terrace house, ca 1900 vintage, still stood


The area I was born in was the area where the huge riots occurred in May 2001
