A great man, I thought. Truly the leader of Time Team, even though Baldrick got all the plaudits.

He seemed such a modest man, yet had a mind like a rapier - and , of course, he was a Professor in real life. But what I liked most was his ability to sum things up, to make decisions, to be diplomatic - even with job's worths from the council, heritage etc.

Very sad news. RIP, Mick.

He was only 66 - such a shame. :-(

One thing that never came through in the programme was that Mick was very left wing and a vegetarian. And he never boasted about his qualifications. Quite a deep and interesting man, and so pleasant.

And you just know he would have been so pleased when Tony Robinson became a Sir. Can you imagine some of the pompous ones on Time Team - "here's Sir Tony and Professor Mick coming to join us over the tumulus" :-) :-)

Very sad. If I think of archaeologists, they are always mad-haired, colourful-jumpered, gregarious characters like Mick, who loved their job.

RIP xx

So sad to here about Mick Aston. Time Team wasn't the same without him. RIP

For those who remember Hans and Lotte Hass, Hans has died at the age of 94.

I loved dear old Mick in his stripey jumpers. I saw the report on the news this morning, but have just got home from work.

I didn't know he was ill, but I think there was some falling out over Time Team when it was revamped. Correct me if I am wrong.

He seemed such a gentle man.

So sad.

Yes, it was a shock to see the news this morning. We had no idea he was in poor health and as avid followers of Time Team were only saying last week that it was a shame he decided to leave when he did.

On the subject of leaving, he was reported as saying "There is a lot less archaeological content and a lot more pratting about. I was the archaeological consultant but they decided to get rid of half the archaeological team, without consulting me."
