On several fish products nowadays, there is a code so you can see what sort of fish it is, whether pollock or others.

You just can't compare those packet fish with the real thing from the chippy!

I used regularly travel about 30 miles to a Fish and Chip shop I had found on the outskirts of Dundee. Their specialty was a whole haddock, headed, gutted, and tailed, bone left in, then deep fried in their own special batter - the most delicious and juicy fish supper I have ever tasted ;-)

Years ago my uncle worked in the 57 variety factory where they made Ketchup, he would never have the stuff in the house.

trouble is when they are called fish fillets
ie any sort of fish they can get
believe one of the popular ones is some sort of vietmanise river fish
there was a programme on tv about fish that was being passed of and 1 man had an allergic reaction to the vietmanise fish that he was expecting to be haddock that the pub usually served

edit
found the name of the river fish its basa and found lots of comments saying it was too oily for frying in batter

I purchased a pkt of Youngs Chip Shop Specials , 2 Large Fish Fillets , when I cooked them , THEY WERE SO GREASY , I HAD TO SCRAP THE BATTER OFF, (which I like normaly ) , THE ACTUAL FISH LEFT WAS NOT ENOUGH IN BOTH PCS TO FILL A SANDWICH !

Next time I will go back to using the Fish shop !

Have you had similar experiances ? :-( :-( :-( :-(
