I have the Baptism -Marriage and Death Indexes for Hampshire

Baptisms 1752-1841 and I cannot find a baptism for an Elisha Port,there are not too many PORT's

Searching for Elisha/Elija and Eli at Alton brings up only this one:-

21 Sept 1821-Eli MORGAN s Sarah spin at Alton

There are no PORT baptisms at Alton between 1813-1841

Have tried linking MORGAN to PORT using the Indexes without success :-(

These people say they are willing to search through Hampshire PR - you can also plough through the various records they hold on the site but not limiting yourself to Alton.

How did you decide that James Port was Elisha'a father? Was it given on his MC? If so, what was his occupation if listed?

As civil registration didn't start until Sep 1837, you'll need to find a baptism record assuming he was baptised. Someone else might be able to find some, as I haven't been successful

Without knowing your expertise, the next step we might suggest is to find the birth and marriage reg for the children either on this site if you subscibe to the records, or on Freebmd which is free to use.

Then look for census records - or ask on this thread if part of the same family.

I don't seem to be able to trace him prior to the 1841 Census, when he is down as Elizh aged 19, in East Street (lodging house?). Any pointers as to how I can find his birth record or his parents greatly appreciated.

I am searching for the family linked to Elisha Port, who was the son of a James Port circa 1820. He migrated to Brighton in 1840 to become a master butcher.

If anybody has any information I would be grateful for the help.
