hopefully if he can keep his diabetes under control today they will let him out of hospital tomorrow been a long few weeks.

3 weeks ago today he had a triple heart bypass, he was put on the waiting list on the wednesday and on the friday night mum had to ring an ambulance and he had the op on the tuesday as there was a cancellation. Not been plain sailing with his recovery due to his asthma and diabetes and me and sister have been taking mum whos disabled over to see him everyday as well as making sure she is ok at home.

Just hope his diabetes plays ball as he will feel better in his own surroundings will just be hard making sure he doesnt over do it, think we will have to tie him to his chair so he doesnt move.

Dawnie
Wishing your Dad a speedy recovery.

I know what it's like making sure they don't do too much( my OH had same op 6 yrs ago) but small amounts of exercise will aid his recovery.

Just a little everyday together with some good food.
Take care

Dawnie, I wish your dad a speedy recovery. I am an insulin dependent diabetic and I had a triple heart bypass at the end of 1993.

As long as he takes it easy for the first few weeks, watches his diet, takes his medication, and follows his doctor's/practice nurse's advice he should be fine :-)

Maggie he has seemed better the past few days just fed up of no appetite and still seeing thngs because of the bubbles in his blood where he was put on bypass all normal they say but very weird for him. Wishing your Dad a speedy recovery from his op.
It can't have been easy for you all getting to hospital and looking out for Mum, so it will be lovely if he can be home for her birthday.

Once he is home, hopefully his appetite will increase. Meals in hospitl tend to b a bit hit and miss, and lets face it, who wants cold toast? At home he can have what he fancies when he fancies withing his diabetic constraints.

Dont push heavy meals at him, dad far prefered lighter food for a bit, but more frequently. Dont try the ''nice roast dinner'' for a bit, stick to lighter things'on toast' soups and progress to' potato' meals. Little and often might be better than '' sorry its not what you ordered but all thats left'' on the hospital meal trolley.

His hospital meals havent been too bad but they havent thought that after having your chest cracked etc you dont want a full meal and just want jelly and ice cream which they have taken off the menu. He did have a lovely girl who took the orders and if they fancied something on the menu that wasnt very much she would order them 2 of it just to get them eating.

Have said to nurses when visiting that if he was moaning he was getting better and cant fault the nurses there they have beren brilliant with him oh appart from one mrs grumpy but will put that down to a bad day.

Hello Dawnie

I was thinking about you just the other day and wondering where you were.

I was on the verge of posting a thread to ask if anyone had heard anything from you.

I see you have been all tied up with family commitments.

All fingers crossed for your Dad ........and all good wishes in the hope that when he arrives home, it wont be too long before he regains his appetite and makes a full and speedy recovery.
