*puts on kettle*

*irons best table cloth*

Explain to a non cook why new potatoes are so much tastier when they come from Jersey.

I'm here! milk, one sugar please Gwynne :-)

I think it's down to the climate and soil quality, although even the Jerseys weren't good last year. My own home grown potatoes were just a write off, as were the lettuce ( what lettuce?!).

Speaking of tablecloths does anyone still use one? I have a batch of them in a suitcase which don't get used these days.

*slurps coffee*

I have a lovely table cloth I use at Christmas, Rose, and other day-to-day ones I use when we eat at the table of have a buffet type meal when friends come round.

The table is wood and I don't want to damage it.

Chef has just told me that it's tomato plant waste fertiliser that makes Jeseys so delicious.

You talking about tablecloths Guinevere
just gave me a flash of the past 1940s of my old mum sitting and embroidering (or whatever they called it) some of the many tablecloths she used to do to earn a few pennies for food etc.
Can still see her now bless ,"pegging" rugs ,with myself helping by doing the clippings.
Thanks for the memories and the tears in my eyes.

Aw, that's lovely. Both of my grandmothers used to do embroidery.

I'm getting worried about Gwynne. There was a time that she didn't even know of the existence of kitchens much less what they are for. Now she's discussing the merits of jersey potatos :-S
