I think it's better to think of Christmas as a season and not a day. That way we aren't disappointed when we don't get to see or visit everyone on one day.

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful day doing exactly what you want to do, Ann. Seeing your son and daughter in law will be something to look forward to after "the day".

Dawnieher3headaches Report 14 Dec 2012 19:52

me and hubby both used to work all over christmas and new year in hotels, I loved it.
Then when first of our three came along I had Christmas Day off and would wait til the evening as Steve had evening off and have dinner ready for evening together would work Boxing Day and in laws would look after her for the day.

THen when Steve changed job he could have all holiday off with us which was nice and he does all cooking which is even better.

Going to be weird this year as eldest has just left home and chances are she will be working anyway as people still need their carers to go in so wont see her. Guess this is the next stage in our life on way to becoming sad old grumpy pensioners lol

you're all very kind - thank you for your warm thoughts - however, I didn't really put this up for sympathy - there are people who have no family at all - I consider myself very lucky indeed

I've slept on a sofa with a bull mastiff in the past Jude though not at Christmas time

Sue - thank you for your very kind offer but I shall enjoy the day by myself eating what I like when I like and watching what I like - me and my faithful pussums, Cadwaladr - Caddie for short :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

You could come here, but there aint no room left, unless you share the sofa with Madoc, you should fit ok you're a shorty:))
Perhaps you could help out somewhere, maybe at your old job....just a thought??

Son and daughter are both working a late shift xmas & boxing day, so will be home all day to see the kids open pressies:)

Christmas Day can be a lonely day for so many. If we have had children, we remember all those happy years. And we still put a tree out and some decorations.

But, for many older ones, it is just like the old and traditional Sunday. A day when you can't buy petrol or food easily, where restaurants charge a fortune. So it is a lie in, a turkey crown with frozen veg and a sleep in front of the Queen. And a good film on DVD (something like "Wonderful Life" or "Carousel" where you can weep at various intervals) and perhaps a nice new book about family history or a biography of someone you like. And happy phone calls to family and close friends throughout the world.

And feel refreshed and re-charged ready for Boxing Day and New Year. Hogmanay, First Footing and Nos Galan (ooops, rr for foreign languages?)
:-D :-D

Hope Christmas Day is happy for you and "children", despite everything. Ann.

I am very proud of both of them - love them to bits - both of them :-) :-) :-)

I think I'll quite enjoy the day on my own

daughter (working in care home) and grandson-in-law (prison officer) both working Christmas day, other daughter lives some way away - so we all including granddaughter and grandson! are meeting up a few days later -
probably do an expensive in-house picnic like smoked salmon, and exchange presents then! - rather looking forward to that, and to a switched off day Christmas itself after midnight mass.

to be honest I just donl't care :-) :-) :-)

nice to know that my son has been good enough to step in when no one else would work on the day - trains have to be put in the right places ready for Boxing Day

Daughter in law is a nurse and she doesn't mind working on the day either
