Sharron Report 3 Nov 2012 12:10

You may recall that last year I had some rats indoors that my cat had kindly brought for me.

It seems I have to have my deliveries live and peferably delivered tome in bed.

The bed is five foot wide and, because of present circumstances, it is in a room that is,I think,8 by 12, along with two large wardrobes and two chests. No room to move it.

The at is now older and a little unwell so,with a bit of luck, has given up ratting.

I,of course, still need to be catered for and this is why there is a bank vole living under the bed.

Of course,I would rather not have a bank vole there but it does not smell or make a noise.I think it must be eating the cat biscuits and anything it can find on the floor, which will be plenty with my domestic proclivities.

I hope it takes it's leave at some point but I really don't want to poison or kill it and ,if it is living alone,it won't provide me with any more.

Aww - bank voles are cute :-D

Does the cat leave it alone?
Maybe the cat's waiting for you to do some 'work' and show your appreciation by presenting them with the vole :-D

I think it must be something to do with my position in the pride that I need to be presented with live food, Or,at least, have it freshly killed.Like the time I awwoke to find the bed covered in blood and a dead rat at my feet.

Another cat,who was quite disdainful of me but used me when he wanted a cuddle, would bring me the bits he didn't want but this one is besotted with me. I am his world but have badly betrayed him by putting pills down his throat every day, even when he didn't feel well!

Hi Sharron, Maggie,
How can you sleep at night. :-0

During the summer, my son had house visitors. The next door garden, which had been very overgrown, was cut down, and he thinks thats where they came from.
So he decided to try a humane trap. One by one, he caught four little mice, and took them to the common to release them.!!
Thankfully, no more have come.

Have fun with your visitor.

:-) :-D

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 3 Nov 2012 12:31

Oh my !!! i am petrified of any mammal that has a long tail .or stubby one! that darts around . We used to have mice from time to time in the family house. Was a Victorian 4 storey one. we had two cats that kept em at bay downstairs but the cats didnt have the run of the house. i remember sleeping with my sister in a big feather bed with my head under the covers cos you could hear scampering overhead and I had the fear that they would come down the chimney into the grate of the fireplace.

Mum had to get the rat catchers in cos they had no idea how they got in and how to get rid of them . The under roofs of the terrace where open all along the row so they got in somewhere along the line.

Made me paranoid from them on with ratty type things. Used to have to disappoint our daughter that she was no way to offer to bring home the class pet in any of the holidays cos I couldnt feed or water it . couldn even bear to look at them even if they were hamsters /gerbils etc . All are the same to me .

Theres no way I would sleep in your room . not that you have asked me to lol !!! :-P

Mice get the heave ho very quickly and,of course, the rats, which was not easy.

I have one of those rodent repellers which has kept mice away so far but this little chap seems to be oblivious to it.

Heis not smelly like mice and I have seen no evidence of his presence but haveseen him just the once.It was the tale that gave it away!

Oo-er, now I'm worried about what might happen to that poor little vole when you're lying in bed fast asleep with your mouth open :-0

Sharron Report 3 Nov 2012 12:41

What, a vole-au-vent?

That poor little vole will have to take it's chances.

Sue

Sue Report 3 Nov 2012 12:42

Sharron,

Being serious for a moment. Do those repellers work??
Just thinking if it ever happened again........

Sue

Edit. Just missed your very witty comment. :-D

Sharron Report 3 Nov 2012 12:49

This one did seem to work.

We are in the country and live with the reality of rodent visits from time to time but I have not had amouse or rat in of it's own accord siince installing it.

The cheap ones did not appear to work but this one was quite dear as I recall. It flashes all the time.

We don't even seem to have rats outside now either. The repeller is supposed to be sending pulses all through the electrical system so I think it must be sounding out through the outside lights.

Cheers for that Sharron. Sounds as if it does then.

Will consider getting one, as to be honest my son was a bit stressed out by it. Not because he was scared, but to think they may be in the wall cavities and damage wires etc., :-)

A rolling pin should do the trick ;-)

I have a bank vault under my bed....but it's empty... :-(

Sharron

Sharron Report 3 Nov 2012 13:11

Put a bank vole in it then.

Right,so I spend my life on the floor with a rolling pin waiting for a bank vole to go by.And what do I roll the pastry out with then, a mouse trap?!

Merlin

Merlin Report 3 Nov 2012 13:19

the same way as they roll the cigars in Cuba. :-D :-D ;-)

Sharron Report 3 Nov 2012 13:52

He would be appalled by the lack of any rodent at the deli counter!

Wend

Wend Report 3 Nov 2012 14:40

He'd also be a ratty catty :-D

Sorry, but I need a little light relief - I've just spent an hour in the kitchen making rock cakes with my 5 year old granddaughter :-S

The kitchen looks as if a flour bomb's hit it :-0

Sharron

Sharron Report 3 Nov 2012 14:43

I expect she is feeling in need of a stiff juice and biscuit after an experience like that too!

Wend

Wend Report 3 Nov 2012 14:47

Well, I could certainly do with a stiff one :-D
