AnninGlos Report 16 Oct 2012 10:58

Finally got home at 2.30 am, managed 4 hours sleep and now fit for nothing.

No the flight wasn't late, in fact it landed half an hour early. Got to the car park, finally located the car (multi storey car park and quite dark so we were a bit disoriented. clicked the key fob..... nothing, tried the manual key couldn't get it to open the door for ages, then it sudddenly opened it, tried engine, battery dead flat. Managed to get the cases into the back seat. (Boot won't open either.) called out Britania, they said an hour so we walked back to the arrivals terminal (the car park is only about 3 minutes walk from there), had a coffee and informed the NCP help desk, walked back to the car and Britania arrived fairly quickly, about 40 minutes. He managed to find the manual key hole for the boot where he expeceted to find the battery, but it wasn't there, he located a charging point in the 'engine' and soon had the car started. He was extremely helpful. Of course it was raining so there was a lot of spray on the motorway from trucks but we eventually got in at 2.30.

The block paved drive we had done while away looks great but When they opened the garage door for the first time the spring went. So so far this morning we have had to phone the garage door people, try and transfer money from M&S (T has been waiting in a queue for the second time for 15 minutes), phone the hairdresser as she'd left a message on the answer phone, and change the appointment that was for Thursday to Wednesday. Phone our handy windows man and arrange for him to do the lounge to conservatory doors.

Is it bed time yet? :-(

An early night I expect Rose. The trouble was the bed was cold and took ages to warm up and after travelling down the motorway I could still see the lights of the lorries so my brain wouldn't relax and let me sleep. I'll live though. :-)

hullo Ann,
dunno what car YOU have, but mines a 03 picasso, with the battery under the left hand passenger seat, with terminals under the bonnet for "boosting leads"

I had an RAC man confused, because he was under the impression that to get at the battery, he needed to remove the complete seat!

whereas he was gobsmacked to find that by releasing a couple of catches the seat swivels /tilts forward, revealing all........

We have only had the car a few weeks Bob, it is a Merc C series, open the bonnet and there is nothing there except a complete matal 'shield'. It is all electric and computerised, a real pain if the battery goes. The Britania man was convinced it was in the boot and spent ages poking around for it, he was quite puzzled, if it had not been gone 1am it would have been funny.

Sue, yep, letting him sort a lot of it (with supervision) but the M&S involves me as he has to phone and explain to the person the other end that I can't hear very well on the phone (especially as I am one aid short at the moment), I then have to give all password details and say he can speak for me etc, it is sooo involved. :-|

quote..........(edited the spelling in places)

Depending on the year of the car the battery is located in the trunk on the right side of where the spare tyre is located.

Hope you have a good sleep in a warm and cosy bed tonight.

AnninGlos Report 16 Oct 2012 13:54

I am sure I will Wend.

Bob The battery in this one is under the bonnet. The trunk is american, does it refer to boot or bonnet I can never remember.

Merlin Report 16 Oct 2012 14:42

Ann you can get a Battery Booster which fits into the "Cigar/Gigarette" Plug.useful to keep in car for emergencies like that.**M**.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 16 Oct 2012 14:50

Merlin, we had a booster for the BMW and we had a solar charger plugged into the merc but that didn't seem to work, no doubt the weather was too poor to boost it via solar power.

BC thanks for the welcome back, there is that much alcohol in my veins that I think it ought to be an alcohol free night tonight. :-D

Hi Wendy

Actually the sun is shining but it is cold enough for 3 layers. The flight was ok although not the best we've been on, very cramped seats, a long time since we have been on a plane with seats that close. And I had one of the only ones who just had to have the seat pushed right back. But he was almost half an hour early landing so, if the car had been ok we'd have been home at a reasonable time.

It was great to see you. Hope your visitors enjoyed their stay and, yes we look forward to April. (when we shall travel with Iberia. We decided the two journies with a break to walk around is preferable to the four hours with knees pressing the seat in front. :-D
