So it's cloudy out and raining, the leaves on the trees are changing
colour, Christmas has arrived in the supermarkets (well it is September)
and the inevitable is on its' way.

Time to look out the warmer clothes and start to really think of pressies
to buy family for Xmas, I have some.

I hate to be cold but admit I love and yes look forward to all seasons.
Dark nights, cosy glowing fire, curtains shut, nothing to complain
about there. Not good at being out in cold damp weather, but who is.

Anyway we are thankful for what we have and through the winter months
the thought of having a better summer next year will keep us going.

Whats your thoughts?

I seem to glide into whatever season it is, Emma, but I love your optimistic outlook! I think people are generally happier when the sun is shining and that's always nice, but I can't say I am affected one way or the other. I DO love getting on the old opaques though! :-D <3

Very rarely use them myself but I do like my straw hat which I wear at a
jaunty angle. ;-)

Island Report 10 Sep 2012 13:53

AfterMcNoonie Emma, it's sunny, dry and green here :-)

I dislike the dark months but tell myself when we change the clocks back that it is only about seven weeks before daylight starts to increase.

I feel optimistic once the hysteria of the commercial season is over and look forward to the first signs of nature awakening.

BC, opaques? are you talking tights or specs? :-D

Julia Report 10 Sep 2012 14:08

Oooh Emma, you sound like a gal after me own heart. On a thread the other day I said how much I was looking forward to the Autumn.
That has just reminded me. When a child, I used to love the Harvest Festival, in schools and churches. Little did I know at the time I would grow up to be a gardener, growing all my own fruit and veg.
I havn't seen anything in the Supermarkets yet in respect of Christmas, or shall I say that the OH hasn't, as he does most of the shopping these days.
As regards presents, well, having a 7 year old grandaughter and 4 gt. grandaughters younger than that, you can well imagine the knitting needles and crochet hooks have been in full swing since June. It is not making the items that take a long time, but the finishing off details, and the embroidery and beading.
I have also crocheted a single-bed sized Afghan for each daughter and a cushion each that looks like the flowering head of a plant.
Still, it keeps my hands supple and free from Arthritis.
I have been saving my T**co vouchers all year, and will have enough to cover the cost of the wine for presents for my grandsons and wives. So that will be one less expense.
We shall be able to go for walks in the countryside, suitably rugged up, with the dog, looking for fir cones and small branches to decorate for Christmas, then come home to the smell of a hearty stew cooking in the bottom oven of the Aga. Lovely.
Christmas Cake is already made, and the next time I am in St. Elsewhere, I will ask if I can have a couple of syringes, to inject and 'feed' the cake with Brandy.LOL
Beginning to think about what other foods to make for the Festive period. We prefer to stay at home, then we can eat drink and be merry to suit ourselves, and go to bed when we have had enough LOLOL

Yes, this is my favourite time of year

Julia such a way with words, how lovely a picture you paint,
gave me goose bumps reading it. :-)

You are known for being a busy woman with knitting needles and
crochet hook, such comforting hobbies.

OH and myself save from first week in January till end November
have done for years for Christmas pressies, takes the pressure
out of trying to find money for these things. Like yourself we also
save Te**o vouchers and Boo*s points, all helps.

Too much information Merlin :-D

I love the Autum but it is still warm and sunny here at the moment. I have started to sort out the wardrobe and get the winter woollies out ready for the colder days.

Just had a thought Emma, it's only six months and six days until our birthday. I shall be hiding it's a biggie next year :-|.

Teresa :-D

I don't like the dark days of winter but do like the bright crisp days. Love it when it snows and I don't have to go out. I miss the pleasure of the garden in winter (I do not go out there in the winter months, I don't like the cold.

Yes it is nice to pull the curtains and stay in the warm but I do love the long days of summer and sadly we didn't have many this year as the months of the longer days were dull and wet.

I do tend to look forward though and like it once we get into the new year and the bulbs start to grow, then I know we are in for better weather, and there is always the chance of a good summer :-D

I do quite like going into winter clothes and 'finding' all the favourites put away for summer. Although I fear many didn't get put away this year.

Actually I am usually happy enough whatever the season as long as the daytimes are not too dark. But I love Christmas and the run up to Christmas. I buy bits through the year and the Grandsons just want money so that removes the stress of trying to find things to buy.

Garden centres are starting to get their Christmas cards and wrappings in. And I am halfway through making my Christmas cards.

'Emma' Report 10 Sep 2012 15:02

Teresa how bigs a biggie, I don't believe it can be
that big. :-D

Ann I also love it when it snows as long as am not
out in it and yes summer is a joy especially if it a
good one. Spring I find gives me a lot of pleasure,
bulbs coming through and a feeling of well being
in the air.
All seasons are also a joy for me, each hold their
own beauty.
Haven't bought Christmas cards yet, but have bought
an easter egg or two. :-D

AnninGlos, I so agree with you re wearing warmer clothes through this "summer".
But I much prefer winter to summer clothes, when necessary. I have always loves wool and tweed.
Next month I will be using all the strawberries up, now residing in the freezer, to make Strawberry Conserve, with a pot in everyone's present box. And, the Brambles to make Jeely as is called in Scotland. This is Dad's favourite, and with a container of Drop Scones, made at the last minute, plus his usually 'bottle', and that his him sorted for Christmas.
With part of one of the freezers then working on empty, I can start and think about Christmas baking, and fill it up again. Saw a little recipe in a mag. the other day, for making a Bramble Sauce to eat with Game, so I will just have to give it a go.
Once they start printing those Christmas recipes in the mags. and supplements, I know we are on the road.
Who said a woman that stops at home, doesn't do anything but stop at home. LOLOL.

Oh I really really want to go and live with Julia. I wouldn't take up too much space, honestly and I have no bad habits...much :-D I could just be spoonfed strawberry conserve and scones and rare beef dripping with fat and pies, lots of pies, chicken, beef with Guinness, and spuds from the garden and all kinds of vegetables, and fresh bread made on the Aga.......and...and....

*dreams on :-D <3 ;-)
