so ......................

that means that you have NOT emptied his room, redecorated it, and re-furnished????

:-D :-D :-D :-D

he'll be home ................ with a huge load of dirty washing, and with a huge appetite

he'll phone ............... especially when he runs out of money

until then, enjoy the peace and quiet, and start doing the things YOU want to do.

It's the natural progression of life ....... you've raised him to be self-sufficient, to overcome major problems, and now it's time for him to learn how to live on his own.

This is the next step in life, for him and for you.

Been there, done that ............. but mine moved over 5,000 km away, although still in the same country.

Thanks Ann & Tess. I know I am being very boring, and just have a bad dose of empty-nest syndrome, but there you are.
I have been on the parentline forum and i know I am not alone, there are people even worse than me! I had no idea how it would feel quite this bad, I mean most of the time for the last year he was out or in his room so we didn't see him all that much. But he lived here!

Jan, it must be difficult for you> I know it is difficult in all sorts of ways,
eg shopping - remembering to buy less and not to get all those special things that your son likes.

Not having to call him in the mornings.

Keeping little bits of news till you speak to him on the phone.

Even missing all the little things that he did that annoyed you (eg leaving toilet seat up and not putting the top back on the toothpaste).

You will have to get yourself a new set of routines, I am sure that you will soon be into the swing of the new ways.

Don't forget, he will be home soon. Then you wil be able to spoil him even more than you usually did.

Meantime, use your extra free time to treat yourself. to anything you fancy.

Take care,
Tess

Poor Jan, early empty nest syndrome. He will return, with his washing.

Right, just letting off steam.
Off he went last Weds. He is fine, settling in. The student support people have been really good.
And I am in a right old state - you would think I had been bereaved! On the brink of tears most of the time, wandering around like a lost soul.
No pleasing some people is there!

Well done to your son, for doing so well and with problems to overcome too, no wonder you are proud. Of course you will be stressed and worried about him leaving home but I am sure he will be fine, and will make new friends and have new experiences to deal with. He will know he can call you and get support as well as get help at uni. All best wishes to him

Thanks a million. I think I have calmed down now!! There is a lot of support for students with any kind of leaning difficulty at uni (unlike at school, but let's not go there) so I am very hopeful for his future. It's very exciting!
Jan (soon-to-be empty nester). :-D

Thanks.
Now for a month of preparation. I am really pleased for him but I'll miss him loads. He has dyspraxia (lots of probs with writing, memory, organisation - bit of an absent-minded professor scenario!) so it's been a real battle for him to achieve this and I am so proud of him.
