apparently, have squirrelled away in offshore accounts,
£13 Trillion!! Aren't they lucky bunnies?

This means a loss to the country of £180 billion - nearly enough, I should imagine, to get us out of the morass!!

When i die i may have money left in the bank to cover the cost of my funeral or i may not but either way i will have lost very little

However on the other hand when these people die they will have lost all of their millions

Who's the fool ?

Unfortunately, Roy, they will have found ways to hand it over to their nearest & dearest - buying properties without (yet again) paying tax is one way - there are firms to help you do it, if you have enough 'readies'.

Good luck to them i say.
I know if I was in their position I would do the same.

I don't know how they sleep at night but they do - very comfortably. Should not be allowed when the originairy EDIT ordinary!! man and woman has no choice but to pay up thru PAYE and are taxed on small savings.

Come on 'call me Dave' plug these loopholes and bring the money back into the country and if they decide to leave the country to avoid the taxes so be it. We need to get rid of that sort anyway.

Yes what they do it wrong - but are we any better when we put our own savings (meagre in comparison) into ISA's.

All perfectly legal - but morally wrong

Merlin Report 23 Jul 2012 13:15

I would,nt say" All "but a lot of these people own or invest a lot of money in firms in this Country And so provide a lot of jobs /income to people here,so don,t knock all of them they have every right to protect what profits they make from the nutters who waste it away on projects which are detremental to this Country.**M**

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 23 Jul 2012 13:22

I don't think they have any right to protect their wealth to the detriment of the NHS.

They already have more money than can be spent in a lifetime - why shouldn't they pay into the system of the country that made them wealthy?

They make me sick.

Greed is so ugly.

Gwynne

Merlin

Merlin Report 23 Jul 2012 13:33

Gwynne, the detrement to the NHS is the total waste that goes on there, too many chiefs and not enough Indians,Millions of pounds frittered away on things which are nothing to do with the Health of people. such as stopping smoking,if they can afford to buy cigarettes they can afford the cure. removal of Tattoos, sex changes ,boob enhancement,(Excluding those who really need it) etc. also making sure that like other Countries people coming here to get things done on our NHS. pay their bills.**M**.

I've just caught something on the news. Not 100% but think they are looking to have lists of clients for scrutiny.

I agree Merlin those Health tourists should be targetted too. I also agree that some wealthy people do a lot of good but I doubt the people who hide their money offshore put much into the economy. It would be interesting to know who they are. I can safely say its not me.

Merlin Report 23 Jul 2012 14:24

Not me either Vera, but if you,ve earned and paid Tax on it why pay extra? just to let it be given away to other countries who then invest it in Swiss Bank accounts for their private use.If its possible to get some back from the Tax Dodgers and use it for the good of this Country good, but not to pay off the interest charges involved by borrowing money to give away to places like India ,China, Brazil even Russia. just to boost the Egos of MPS. **M**.

The one thing that money cannot buy, no matter how much you have, and where you have it, is your health.
Look at the people we have very sadly lost during this week. They were better off financially than most of us on here, but, in the end, that did not matter.
And I mean this with feeling.

The trouble is Merlin they are not paying tax on it and it is borderline evasion but they have creative accountants to keep them legal.

Money going abroad is a separate issue and is quite often tied up in the politics of the day. When we have no further use for them the funds will be cut. I don't think any government really gives to help the needy. The charities do that ie via our money again. Everyone gets my money Its a wonder I have anything left.

if they have earned it let them keep it,
its there money,

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 23 Jul 2012 15:02

The point is that they have hardly paid any tax on it - they've hidden it away in off shore accounts. Is that fair? Shouldn't they pay taxes like everyone else?

Obviously some people here think it's fine for the rich to get even richer and for the average and the poor to pay higher taxes to make up for the shortfall created by those who avoid paying tax. If you're happy to pay more so that the rich don't have to that's up to you. But I'm not.

Merlin, you seem to think that because there's some waste in the NHS that justifies tax avoidance - I can't follow your logic there.

There are decent rich people who are happy to pay their way and their taxes because they know how lucky they are and feel they should support the less well off.

Kudos to them and shame on the others.

George Report 23 Jul 2012 17:47

Firstly, the so called poor do not pay higher taxes,
If these people have made their money, good luck to them for trying to keep it, why give it to the bloody scroungers.
They have the intelligence and drive to earn their money.
Charities are also prone to filtering huge sums of money away.

The NHS, well there's another thing, stop foreigners milking it and start charging people who abuse it, like drunks, druggies, smokers, and some of the others who take up NHS resources with their petty problems.

On average, most people would love to be able to avoid paying tax, but they haven't got either the intelligence or the guts.
When i worked, I am retired now, I would do what I could to cut my tax liability, and why not, the bloody politicians give away billions to so called third world countries, and most of it is pilfered away by the governments of these grasping contries.

Guinevere Report 23 Jul 2012 18:06

George, if the rich get away without paying their full whack then it follows that the rest of us have to make up the shortfall. There is no money tree where we can go to get what they get out of paying.

The rich are not all intelligent - many of them are rich because they were born rich and have never had to do a day's work in their lives. They pay other people to make sure they stay rich. Tax the lazy beggars, I say.

I would love to pay less tax but I acknowledge my responsibilty to the rest of society. Maybe if the rich paid their dues we would all pay less tax.

Gwynne

I agree wholeheartedly with what you just said,
Tax the lazy beggars, the ones who would rather doss about than go and get a job because they get their social money for a start.

Rambling Report 23 Jul 2012 18:49

I really believe that if you earn the money, you pay the tax on it, end of, after that what you do with the remainder is your own business.

But the government should close the loopholes that allow people or businesses to pay less less than the amount set for 'us all.' Eg ( figures for illustration only) if the rate of tax is 20% up to 1 million income, that's what you pay...if it's 40% over 1 million that's what you pay.

If you don't like it, leave the country and earn your money elsewhere.

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 23 Jul 2012 19:06

i no people who have paid hundreds of thouands in tax, enjoyed the money and never saved, now they have to be on benefit and they get a pitance, when they have paid hundreds of thousands to this country when needed get nothing back, thatw what i find disgusting

if there is a loophole allowing people who have money to save more n pay less, then good for them,
