Ann ,some people will stoop to anything.....
On the news the other day there was a man who was in his greenhouse when he heard a noise out front , he went round to find that there was two men with a van and they were taking his flowers and putting them into the van so he stood in front of the van until they put them back .

Sorry about your flowers :-(

I know how you feel. We have two pots on the wall at the entrance to our garage and right next to our gate. Last year they looked beautiful with red hanging geraniums in them. One morning I noticed that one had been stolen and a trail of earth led to the road where I guess it had been loaded into the boot of a car. I kept watch expecting them to come back for the other one. Luckily the containers were screwed to the wall

Some people have no respect for what does not belong to them

well I've just had a tour of the immediate vicinity - no trace - I'm wondering if it was the scrap dealers who infest this area on a daily basis - the planters were metal - they matched two larger ones which have rose trees in them but they are too heavy for me to shift otherwise they'd be in the back garden by now!!!

Sorry you've lost your plants Ann. I've no decent words to describe the ++++++ thieves :-|

A few years ago my Sil had pots stolen from her front door step, two huge beautiful Victorian chimney pots!! how 'they' managed to carry them off is still a mystery, but we hoped they got back trouble!!!

my Friend lost his 3 hanging baskets from the front of his house last week
as they are quite heavy it must have been more than one person, can't for the life of me think why people do this, very low life ,sorry too you lost your plants Ann

Low life, sounds as if they were stolen for the metal containers not the plants. Do you have neighbourhood watch? If so let them know so they can put out a warning.

Vera2010 Report 20 Jul 2012 16:14

Sorry you have lost your plants.

my daughter had a plant removed from her step on two occasions. Each time it was found on the doorstep of the lady across the road (in her 70's who could not carry it). Turns out it was the friends of her grandson. So just meant to be a 'bit of fun'.

I can't believe that people will stoop so llow as to steal someones plants but then they are prepared to take flowers off graves nowadays. Maybe you can somehow bluetak them down.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 20 Jul 2012 16:36

I've been thinking about the metal containers - I have informed the police and have a crime number - they were very concerned which surprised me

we are plagued by scrap dealers on an almost daily basis - up and down the road with a loud hailer like the old rag and bone men

Sorry about your plants

I think your right about the metal.

I don't know what the lead trim is called between the brickwork under the bay window but last year a neighbour knocked to see if we had heard anything (we hadn't) as his had been taken.

Lo and behold the next evening they returned and took ours.

The nerve of these people is unbelievable :-(

I remember my mother had four beautiful hanging baskets stolen from the front of bungalow. She went to water them as usual one morning, and there they were gone :-0
They weren't taken for the metal because they were the traditional wire basket type.

I recently saw an advertisment in a magazine for a gadget to secure your shrubs into the ground to prevent theft.
I really couldn't be bothered. If people are so desparate, God help them.

AnnCardiff,

Look around the area to see if any travelers are camped anywhere, most likely swiped your planters.

We have problems here in Hampshire with travellers as well.

Will watch Crimewatch next time it's on.

George

Travellers are more likely to go for scrap metal legally or illegally. Doubt they would take something with flowers in..

A friend of mine installed a security camera at the front of his house - to keep an eye on cars, visitors etc.
The following night it was stolen.
When he was telling me this I was trying to stop sniggering.
The following night they came back and stole the bracket and fixings (snigger).

Sorry to hear your plants were stolen. We had 2 tall victorian chimney pots on the gravel at the front where I used to live. We had some old scaffold tubes and I persuaded my OH to hammer those in the ground sticking up about 2 foot six and then we put the pots over them and filled them with soil and planted them. One morning we got up and they were leaning at a crazy angle where someone had tried to take them but couldn't work out why they couldn't get them out. My OH had tought me paranoid putting tubes in them as well. After that they went in the back garden. People down the road had fuschias dug up from their front garden. Too many people have no respect for other people's things.
