have no idea if it's coming here - suppose it is, but not wishing to sound like Victor Meldrew, I'm just not interested

the state this country is in, and Europe in general, I feel it's a gross waste of money

yours sincerely

Victor Meldrew :-D :-D

It's just south of me about now, my brother-in-law is marshalling the route. Having seen the convoy thats with it you have to wonder how we the UK can afford it, the fuel & police escort alone must be in the thousands.

We seem to be good at wasting money :-(

Quite agree re the cost as also with the Jubilee, but its still nice to have some sort of celebration....good for the community spirit etc:)

jujde :-)

It's in the town where I shop tomorrow, so I'll give it a wide birth.....can't be doing with all the crowds, tho actually , if I walked to Asd*, I could have a vantage point, as there is a pathway from said shop up to the road and nature pathway that brings me back home . ( There's a bench at the top so I wouldn't have to stand)
I guess some locals may have the same idea tho :-|
Dau wants to use her lunch break to go and see it, don't know where she is going to park tho ! I bet it will be chaos !

Yep Eyeore, I agree, it does make you wonder how we as GB can afford it all, in the state our economy is in.

Sorry, I can't get excited about it.
It's not the Olympic Torch: it's a series of torches lit one from another.

And the idea of sending a convoy of sixteen vehicles with about a hundred people on board for a seven week tour round the Country is ludicrous. The environmental and financial cost is crazy.

~`*`Jude`*`~ Report 24 May 2012 21:34

Still agree with the money spent and the amount of vehicles, police etc used....but still think the community spirit is amazing and needed:)

Eeyore13

Eeyore13 Report 24 May 2012 22:48

They were made in Coventry !!!

I'm amazed they didn't source them overseas...it'd have been cheaper.

~`*`Jude`*`~ Report 25 May 2012 07:55

Getting excited, not long now :-) :-)

To some of the Torch Bearers its as if they have won the Olympics and received a GOLD MEDAL.... :-) :-)

A 16 yr old is doing his A levels this morning then carrying the torch later. He was chosen because of his help in looking after his 2 autistic brothers, his mum nominated him:)))
So many bearers have been chosen for things they have done, or because they can't etc etc...it means the world to them. Community Spirit at its best :-)
l know there are lots of other things that go on with community spirit in mind, but this is also world wide excitement and for sport minded people its great:)
Could'nt sleep last night cause l'm excited:))

jude xx :-)

you do make me laugh Jude :-) I wondered why you were posting so late!! It's in Cardiff today apparently but after my wanderings around your neck of the woods yesterday I could just about manage some enthusiasm for the lighting f a match!!

I think I'm jut too old for all this hype - how' Jean by the way?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 May 2012 10:55

Sob* they managed to get it through Gloucester without our assistance yesterday. Missed it! Would not have gone to see it but I read somehwere that when the torch was in one area in the S West, can't remember where, the local economy benefitted by a huge amount so maybe it is not all bad news, people flocking to see it and then spending money locally can't be bad.

AnnCardiff Report 25 May 2012 11:14

apparently they are already for sale on eBay

*$parkling $andie* Report 25 May 2012 11:21

The toorch bearers are here today thro my nearest town ,which I have just 'escaped' from , it nut's there already. I can't hack the hassle.

The torch bearers are a young 21 yr disabled lad who uses a wheelchair, from a neighbouring town. He has many Judo awards, but sadly was paralysed in a car accident at aged 16 .

A 14 yr old lad who became the youngest deputy Mayor at aged 11, of a adjacent borough , nominated because of his charity work.

And a Dutch 25 yr old female Synchronized swimmer, whose dream was to go to the Olympics ,but the team no longer exists..
Excuse me , but why is she running the torch in my nearest town ?
I beggars belief.

I am going to walk over and have a nosey>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..
Must go to get vantage point????!!!!! from 100 yds away.

Sandie.
