So glad things went really well Annina, hope the quilt was admired and will be treasured. I am sure it will.

I bet you can't wait till your brother and family come to you now, have you taken loads of photos to keep the memory of the meeting forever?

Hope everything goes well for all of you

You have been well rewarded for your bravery in setting out on this special visit all alone.

Sounds like there was no ice to break, just warm, happy feelings all around.

Hope that all the cousins can get together soon.

:-)

Nina
I'm so pleased for you that you had a great visit and what a wonderful surprise it was for Jack.
Sometimes language doesn't matter, when you all make an effort to get on.

We too have been surprised within our family, when traits from grandparents show up so keenly in grandchildren born long after the grandparent's death.

How lovely that the cousins are so similar. It will be great if they meet.

Hello all, just got back from Belgium, where I had a lovely weekend with my brother and his beautiful family.

Jack had no idea that I was going and his face was a picture that I will never forget. I have had a lovely time getting to know them all,and the fact that we don't know each others language didn't seem to mattter one jot.

My brother is the spitting image of our father who he never met,but strangely he has all Dads mannerisms,it was uncanny, you would think that you would learn them from living with someone, but apparently not.

Next time we meet, Jack is coming over to meet my lot,is he in for a shock, his children and mine are so alike in personality that they could be siblings.

Thank you for being interested, will post you all on any future events,I am now going to treat my sunburn,Love from Nina in Sheffield.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Best of luck Annina, have a wonderful time meeting your 'new' relatives, I am sure your brother will love his quilt and it might become a family heirloom too.

Happy travelling.

It will be the first time ever seeing my big brother. I didn't know of his existence until I was 21,the product of my fathers short lived marriage.

As my Dad wouldn't talk about him I have been stabbing in the dark for 40 yrs.

Once or twice I have thought that I had found him, only to learn that he had once again, gone to live in another country.

I have been paper trailing him from Belgium,Canada,Greece and back to Belgium where he now lives. Managed to locate him just before he moved country again.

When I finally traced him He didn't have any idea that he had two sisters and another brother, poor soul was a little shell shocked when I first got in touch, but now he is like a dog with two tails,as he was brought up an only child.

Thanks all for your interest, now I really should go and pack.
