It's been lovely to read other peoples favourites, and as Wend has said, the memories of our loved ones passed, remembered in flowers.
Many mentioned I had forgot I already had. And Bill Staffordshire, I too am a fan of the Passion Flower, but I mean the one that grows in the garden, you norty boy.

Thanks Everybody

A Passion Flower...

YorkshireCaz Report 24 Apr 2012 17:49

My favourite flowers are carnations and pinks, my granddad used to grow them and always sent me home with armfuls when they were out, lovely. I prefer green pot plants in the house but love a vase of carnations.

I think many of us love certain plants because they remind us of people from our past. I love hydrangeas because my much-loved grandmother grew them in her garden :-) <3

mustn't forget my rambling rose - Arthur Bell - bright yellow with pink tinges and the most wonderful smell, and so many roses on a single plant - nearly 100 last year and stacks of buds now on the point of opening

Aqualegia - all over my garden, even in between the paving cracks. Same with blue violets - everywhere!!

For those of you who haven't come across Daphne Odora, this is the most heavily scented flower - fantastic and last from late Feb through to now!!

I adore Freesias, have Lily of the Valley everywhere, Hollyhock, poppies, polyanthus, - love pinks and carnations - also have Sweet William which remind me of my Dad - he always grew them

Love chrysanthemums too!! adore the smell

I love snowdrops as they remind me of my Nan, and red poppys remind me of grandad so there are quite a few of them in my ickle garden......

Island

Island Report 24 Apr 2012 13:23

Wend, I had to look up Cannas. By showy bedding I meant things like geraniums, ones with too much brash colour and not enough green on show.
I like to see lots of greenery and dots of colour.

I am quite fascinated by the formation of pompom dahlias :-0 :-D

Weeds Merlin? I hope you're not maligning our wild flowers :-0 I much prefer them to over blown hybrids.

Merlin

Merlin Report 24 Apr 2012 13:22

I like most flowers, primarily Roses , but I do like the ones which you can pick and have in the home,I even like some weeds which sometimes have pretty flowers on and lots of scented shrubs.plus the inevitable Cat Mint. :-D :-D.

I think my favourite flower has to be Lily Of the Valley , lovely perfume from such a tiny flower !!

I have some thing growing in the garden and we don't know what it is ,we're waiting to see if it flowers , some one said it looks like Poppies ,some one else said it looks like it could be from the Dandelion family .

Would be just my luck i'am looking after a Dandelion
:-D :-D

SCOZZIE, I wish I could grow Orchids, but I am an absolute falure at it. I have tried three times over the years to grow them indoors and failed miserably.
WEND, now Cannas, now your talking. Absolutely loverly. I have a few. But when buying a pot, it has to be the Calla Lilly for me.
Really though, I am a devil for buying pots of anything that takes my fancy, in that line.

I like most flowers (apart from impatiens and polyanthas), but my very faves are Cannas (probably what Island considers a showy bedding plant, he he!) I overwinter them in my greenhouse and I'm champing at the bit to plant them out now, but it's too bloomin' cold. I buy one new variety each year.

Oops, and I love most dahlias (sorry Sue!) They went out of fashion for a few years, but I think they're well back in now. A particular favourite is called 'Café au Lait'.
