There was also a Childrens Home on the sea front at Cullercoats run by the North East Childrens Society (now called Children North East) but this closed some years ago.

Mau

I loved the one of the little girl swinging on the lamp post. We did that in our street as late as the 50's. I do remember the old quayside. Not as it is now but I didn't know about the selling of clothes. I thought maybe they were sorting them for laundry.

I remember going to the fair on the 'town moor' on one occasion. It was huge and I think it was held in what was called Race Week.

Also used to go to your part of the world. Over the Tyne Tunnel and either a bus or sometimes walked to the Ice Rink. We were never in in those days and alll with little pocket money.

Thanks for stirring old memories.

Hi Robert......yes NE childrens' society is a very old charity and does lots of good work/support for the disadvantaged.
Was the home by the Bay?

Vera glad you've enjoyed the trip down memory lane :-D

Yes Mau, the Home was on the seafront overlooking Cullercoats Bay beside the navigation lights just along from Mast Lane towards the Church.
