I'm glad I'm not the only one who has old school books,I still have mine,lol........I'm glad I have.

Yesterday turning out books,I came across one from my school, that was given to me by the teachers,
a little inscription inside cover said,thank you for being helpful.
I was real chuffed when I got that,I when I read it again,still made me feel pleased.
That was over 50 years ago.(OMG,is it that long ago??)

My granddaughter said,why do you keep all these things??
My reply was,"because it makes me feel nice".
So I guess thats why I will never be a minimalist,I have too many things to make me feel nice. <3

Stray, have to admitt do have a peek view every now and again, does give an insight into how they developed.

When a friend visited us for the first time in this house, she remarked that we had gone minimalist. We certainly had. Downsizing for us really did mean that - from large 4 bedroomed house with large garden to small two bedroomed bungalow with a kitchen half the size of the utility room in the previous house, patio and just enough space to park the motorhome. Most of our furniture was sold and we just bought the bare minimum.

Two years later same friend visited and remarked that the place looked a bit cluttered. She should see it now! I blame OH - keeps every free CD and DVD that comes his way; records every film on TV (never watches them, though); keeps magazines for years.

Me? I just have a few bits of unfinished knitting, crocheting, embroidery, puzzle books for the last two years, family history papers, documents from the 3 committees I am on.

I really will have a clear out sometime soon!

I'd love to be minimalist but nobody believes me when I politely suggest that I do not want anymore christmas and birthday presents.
I don't believe I ever bought myself an ornament - because I have only ever seen them as dust collectors but because I have been given so many I guess others think I must like them LOL

I believe part of the feel good factor of going away for a holiday is because we aren't surrounded by our clutter.

oh carol, my mam has all my old school book, and most of my old toys in her loft, i love looking through them,

i have kept most of littlemans too :-| but there under my bed out the way hahahaha

I am certainly not a minimalist, and I too inherited a lot of 'stuff' when My parents dies and they also had 'stuff' from their relatives etc which ended up here. I have in the past year made myself send some to the charity shop that I had no sentimental value for. I can do that as I know it is doing good for somebody. I also sent a lot of books (although looking around you wouldn't think so!!!

Gran died most of her 'stuff' came here
Mum & Dad moved unwanted 'stuff' came here
Mum & Dad died rest of 'stuff' came here
1 G/aunt dies all her photos and personal bits came here
her sister dies and yes you guessed it more stuff came here.

And that is along with all my own bits and bobs collected since I was a child. I live in a 3 bedroom house with OH and 1 cat. 1 spare room totally full. Loft full. Dining Room, have not been able to eat in there for years!!!

Would love to be able to be even a little bit more minimal, but I just could not bear to part with much of my cherished belongings. OH not much better. The only good thing is that when he moved in we were able to cut down on the amount of books he brought with him as we just got rid of the doubles.

Am sitting at my dining room table surrounded by bookcases and lots of my treasures. Could not imagine my life without any of them. :-)

Trish my husband has kept all three children's school exercise books about 60/80 , everytime I try to throw some away they reappear. Offered them to children who say "why on earth would I want them". In shed hanging from ceiling are sons first football boots he is 35 now, dread to think what else he has squirrelled away in there lol.

I bulk buy when it is cheap. It saves money alright but it sure as Hell's awaiting for you doesn't save any space!

Sue I know what you mean there,
I found some little drawings that my own children did,they have children of their own now,and I even found those drawings too.
What I am doing now,is putting these things in folders,and giving it to my daughters to keep for themselves.
Its up to them what to do with it. :-D :-D

Trish I am the same can't get rid of the thingsthat the kids have bought me over the years.also got a picture that my grandson did at nursery when he was just 3 and I still have it on the wall in my bedroom.

But like you I have to down size my ornaments and bits and bobs,but just can't resist anything made of Coal or Slate now as my ex brother inlaw's frined made me an Owl and a Hedgehog in Coal some 35 yars ago.And I won't part with those but I keep adding to them anything from Celtic Castings.

Same here Hayley,now retired,but never did waste our money,not with bringing up a family.Never had much left over at the end of the week anyway.
We always had fun though. :-D

In truth I just think I am very dispicline now, so use to counting the pennies.
