Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 18 Feb 2012 17:09

Just had a big fall!! I opened the front door to see if any post and noticed the chyysanths in the porch had died off and needed dead heading. I bought out the clippers and a bucket and did the necessary.. I walked back into the hall but as I stepped over the step I caught my right foot in my left trouser leg and went flying!! I thought OH MY GOD I don't want to hit my head , our ground floor is on a concrete base and the hall is paved with ceramic tiles with a hall runner. I did avert my head so as not to fall on my face but I have a BIG bruise on my right apple cheek with carpet burns and I have bent my glasses. NOT amused if i have to get new ones cos they are varifocals and costly.

OH was flummoxed as he has his own health problems and no way could he help me to get up. He wanted to call for help but I didnt want that, After laying there for a few mins I tried to get up which was very hard as I aint a small girl BUT i managed it eventually . I am a bit shaken uo to say the least

Thanks Chris Its so simple how these things happen,

At over 70 falling isn't a soft option to say the least especially when one is carrying a bit of excess weight

Hope you're okay Shirley and can make a cup of tea and have a sit down.
Falling is horrible and you could be in shock

Ouch!! Take it easy because as the shock wears off more aches and pains might make their presence felt!!
Hope you are sitting down with a nice cuppa (or something a tad stronger maybe ;-) )

I speak from experience at 71 I tripped up on path and smashed both wrists, 12 days in hosp, plated, screwed and wired and back later for another op with bone graft. So although shook up, you have been a lucky girl. Go gently on the glasses - if not optician can probably fix them. You will probably feel very sore for a few days so take it easy. As others say have a cuppa with sugar - or a little brandy!

If your hands still hurt in a little while - soak a bandage/hankie/t towel in vinegar and wrap around then cover with towel. Vinegar brings out the bruises and eases pain.

Chris sorry I missed your post its this Google chrome i am now on, Ouch you did do a massive injury. Thankfully i have got away with a bruised cheek although it does look as if I might be getting a black eye too, Hopefully the optician can adjust my glasses or I may have to fork out for new ones

Hope you are OK Shirley and manage to get some rest tonight.
If you feel rough tomorrow perhaps you should get your bruises etc. checked incase there is damage which can be put right sooner rather than later.

from experience of falling in 2010 you will probably find more bruises tomorrow Shirley. I hope you don't feel too sore though. If you have to replace your glasses it might be worth checking your insurance. It was fortunate that you didn't hit your head though. Hope the shock is wearing off now. :-)

Oh Shirley, hope you are feeling ok. Earlier to-day I tripped over a lead on the floor, luckily I did not fall. After I realised that if I had I would have hit the side of the bath with my head. May not have been here to post this. You take care.

It's so easy to be distracted and trip, I have done it myself, and it shakes you up, doesn't it, never mind the bruises.

When I caught my specs on the door frame of the car getting out one day they flew onto the road and broke, I claimed on my house insurance and got quite a bit towards a new pair, had to pay the excess tho.

Hope you can get your specs sorted out and will feel better soon, take care, would say take more water with it lol but maybe you hadn't had the stiff drink at the time lol

I expect you are feeling a bit sore this morning Shirley,i had a fall 4 weeks ago at the local train station and ended up being taken to hospital, i thought i had broken my hip but luckily it was my hamstring also cracked my knee and badly bruised my wrist, even after all this time my hamstring is still very painful.
Take care

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 19 Feb 2012 10:40

Thanks everyone. Yes i am a bit sore and stiff this morning. Fortunately no black eye. but the cheek bone has a swelling and there is abrasions too from the jute hall runner. My hands are aching to from time to time but I have osteoarthritis. just diagnosed, in them so the pain is more arthritic than bruised.

OH says I should buy some trousers with narrower bottoms cos I have done this before but not onto a ceramic floor which isn't very forgiving.Maybe though my fat does have a good side as it was a cushion against more serious injuries . Thats my story and I,m sticking to it !! lol
