Any one else received a letter from NHS - offering this? Offering it to those aged 70 and over in our area.

AnninGlos Report 7 Nov 2011 12:15

I have done two, but I think for some reason ours stop when you are over 70. Goodness knows why.

Me - I will take any precaution offered! Just wondered how I came into the lucky dip!

Since aged 64/65 have to ask for mamogram every 3 years but I do.

Do it Mel.....doesn't take a lot of time or effort, why put your health at risk?

I've done two and think we're soo lucky to be given the chance.

Mel - prevention is better than cure - the other option is a no-no.

In my area, I am too old at 80.

There´s no screening programme in Spain & I ended up having a colonoscopy a couple of months ago, following 2 unexplained haemorrages.
Not an entirely unpleasant experience because it was done under a light general anaesthetic,& luckily, nothing was found (nor for that matter was the cause of the bleeding), but if you have the chance to be screened, please do it. It´s a lot less traumatic.

We get the kits at over 60 in our area but I had to wait a couple of years. I would think prevention is alway than the cure or even an early warning better than no knowledge. ....better than having a trip to the hospital or the doctors.-jl

I take everything that's offered to me, and have have two tests done.

I am here in USA at present and have just asked my American friends about having this same test done in USA.....you will be shocked at how much they have to pay ......$550 which includes a doctors fees !!

How lucky are we ?? VERY !!!!!

Well I am hugely grateful for that test and am glad 'I didn't take my chances' last year when I did it, as it would not have been discovered that I had bowel cancer.

I value my life too much not to take any tests offered to me. Bring em on is what I say!

:-D

Mel, please do the test,
l have just watch my Mum and younger brother die from bowel cancer and it is NOT nice.

I think everyone should take any opportunity to have any tests done,it does give you peace of mind, when the results are clear.
As someone said, its a bit fiddly to do,not rocket science.
It,s well worth it.

My hubby was sent a test when he was sixty and again this year when he was sixty-two. He's refused to do it. I'd be afraid not to.

I did one a few months ago and would urge anyone who has the chance to do it.
I lost a niece at just 43 with bowel cancer.

Yes; younger than 70 in our area.

Vera2010 Report 7 Nov 2011 16:34

Was offered one once as part of a national programme but chose not to at that time. Too many stresses then and did not want to add to them waiting for results., However not sure how practical the test is as I believe it has to be 3 consecutive samples and that can be difficult for some. Had to give up on GP test for that reason. Must eat more fruit and veg.
